A 19 year old student at the University of Zambia has reportedly committed suicide after allegedly being denied a bursary.
Musanka Mukwamba of Lusaka’s Kalingalinga township, who had been admitted to the university’s school of Humanities, is said to have taken her own life with a poisonous insecticide after learning of her predicament according to people familiar with the development at UNZA radio.
Out of the 6000 plus first year students admitted to Zambia’s highest institution of learning, only 2,600 have been placed on the bursary scheme.

Shame. This is one lady who really wanted education but could not afford it…Sad isn’t it? Other people have money but do not take school seriously. Very sad realities of life.

In as much as it so sad for one to take one’s life, could there, may be, have been other external forces that led her to taker her life?

You have no idea what people go through in life do you?
it may look like a small matter to you,,,but how do you know what the poor girl was going through at that moment?
Suicide was not the solution,,,but she obviously had no one to help her through the pressure.

Ali chikopo fwe she had other issues. Even if she had got the bursaries she would ve committed suicide by the time she’s in 2nd year due study pressure and poor grades. You can’t kill yourself over bursaries stiopeti lyobe.

I DO NOT THINK THIS LADY COMMITTED SUICIDE ON THE BASIS OF BEEN DENIED BURSARY.I APPEAL THE DOCTORS WILL CARRY OUT PORSTMONTAME BEFORE BURYING HER. I FEEL SHE HAD OTHER ISSUES BUT SHE NOW FOUND THE BEST EXCUSE OF BEING DENIED BURSARY.

The level of insensitivity displayed in these comments is diplorable. Everyone is putting blame on this girl without knowing all the facts. Calling her names and saying things about her life that we didn’t know. If bursery is not for Zambians who can’t afford University; then who is it for? Someone is dead fro crying out loud. The least we can do is show sympathy for her family. A fmaily that probably had so many hopes and dreams for their child/sister who was going to university. This is not a joke. You people making fun should look at your comments and wonder how you would feel if this young girl was your relative. MHSRIP.

I came from a very poor familiy in Zambia. My Mother could not even afford to buy maal maal or to buy me a uniform. Het throughout the memorable leadership of D’r. Kenneth Kaunda and to the uncorrupt UNIP thousands of my agemates were able to accessoires themselves to free education. I can now blast to be one of the educatied Zambians due to UNIP. Now we have corrupt leaders who only care About theiir families. The have to go. If necessary by force. They are responsabel for such unnesary deaths.

I have also said so before, @Tumbuka. Sometimes nikunkala chabe zii or if you are educated keep it otherwise you open up to scrutiny because definitely KENNETH KAUNDA wouldnt be proud of someone he education “for free education” to write like Majorie our Zimbabwean maid.
