Woman Marries Herself After Getting Fed Up With Being Single
Grace Gedler, from the UK, has got married to herself after getting fed up with being single for six years.
Her wedding ceremony, attended by 50 guests, was apparently inspired by Bjork’s song Isobel, with the lyrics, ‘My name’s Isobel, married to myself’.
She proposed to herself on Parliament Hill, north London, in November and finally walked down the aisle alone in March.
Grace was watched by friends and her sister and the wedding was completed with a kiss on a mirror.
Apparently she decided to on the marriage after building up a good relationship. With herself.
She said: ‘A few did comment, in a light-hearted way, that it was a bit narcissistic. Obviously, if you have just announced you’re marrying yourself, it is plainly a statement of self-love, and I was under no illusion how self-indulgent that might appear.
‘But I was completely comfortable with my motivations. I’d been on a journey of personal development using meditation, dance and performance to increase my self-awareness.
‘Included in this was a Shakti Tantra programme focused on sexuality and how this was bound up with making agreements with yourself and other people.’
Grace says she now feels empowered and like she is no longer single.
