Zambian Gun Manufacturer Fined K1500

CHOMBA MUSIKA – Choma
A 50-YEAR-OLD bricklayer of Choma has been fined K1,500 or in default four months simple imprisonment for possession of a home-made shotgun and ammunition without licence.
This is in a matter in which Croxley Mwansa of Mizinga village in Macha Mission area pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm contrary to the Firearms Act.

Particulars are that on September 18 this year in Choma, Mwansa was in possession of a home-made shotgun and ammunition without a licence.
In count two, it is alleged that on the material day, Mwansa had in his possession three wire snares without a licence.
Mwansa pleaded guilty to the first count but denied the second.

The matter came up before principal resident magistrate Willie Sinyangwe on Thursday for facts in respect of count one.
Facts are that on the material day, Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) officers in Choma received information that Mwansa was in possession of a home-made shotgun.
Acting on a tip-off from the public, the ZAWA officers went to Mwansa’s home where they recovered a home-made shotgun.
The officers asked Mwansa to produce a firearm licence for the shotgun but the accused failed.

Mwansa was apprehended and taken to Choma Central Police station where he was charged and arrested for the subject offence.
Under warn-and-caution, Mwansa admitted having committed the offence.
Asked whether the facts were correct, Mwansa replied in the affirmative.

In mitigation, Mwansa asked the court not to send him to jail because his children, who are in grades one, two, five and six, would suffer.
“I fine you K1,500 which you should pay by October 23 this year,” Mr Sinyangwe said.
Mwansa was released on a K5000 bail.

Uyu Mwansa ee! This chap just needed to be given the licence of manufacturing guns he’s smart though his intentions are for poaching. Govt promote such people by encouraging them with grants then they won’t he poaching. Very few can make a gun at home.
