Bayport To Sponsor 50 UNZA Students

BAYPORT Financial Services has offered to sponsor 50 University of Zambia students who failed to register after being denied bursaries by the government.

Bayport Financial Services manager Wane Msiska said the institution would hand over 10 full sponsorships and 40 partial support to the students that failed to meet the registration requirements at the university.

“We will have the handover ceremony tomorrow [today] at the [education] minister’s office. The sponsorships are to help those students who were accepted at UNZA but denied bursary and have failed to meet the registration requirements,” said Msiska.

Bursary allocations at UNZA sparked public debate after the Bursaries Committee denied over 4,000 students sponsorship.

The Bursaries Committee is currently working at increasing the number of students on sponsorship following a directive from education minister Dr John Phiri to adjust the number upwards.

Over 6,000 students applied for bursary at UNZA but only 2,400 were offered sponsorship, causing many to withdraw from the institution.

Meanwhile, education ministry spokesperson Hillary Chipango said the revised list of UNZA students offered bursaries has not yet been released as the Bursaries Committee is still considering the matter.

“People should avoid obtaining wrong information from wrong sources. No one from UNZA is also allowed to give statements on the bursaries issue because they are not the ones proposing names of people to be added to the adjusted list,” said Chipango.

My brother firstly HH and GBM are not companies.Besides ask UNZA how many students Sata has sponsored at UNZA even Evelyn Hone college. Then ask UNZA, zicas, Evelyn hone, they will give you statistics of a number of students HH has and is sponsoring. The bible says when you give let not your left hand know. But go a heard and ask those institutions because on a serious note i happen to be one of the beneficiaries from HH.i CAN GIVE YOU MY DETAILS for you to prove

Thus a wonderfull gesture by the Bayport. If all the responsible companies do a coporate social responsibility, then all students who remained on bursary who would have catered for.

The other question we can ask ourselves is why is it that this time around government under PF is limping on almost all issues concerning FINANCIAL issues.could there an invisible hand looting our money on the expense of other important sectors like education?
