Turkey to Train Zambia In Counter-Terrorism

ZAMBIA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Turkey to train police officers under the paramilitary unit in counter-terrorism, Minister of Home Affairs Ngosa Simbyakula has said.
Dr Simbyakula directed Inspector- General of Police Stella Libongani to ensure that Zambia benefits from the MoU and to effect it as soon as possible.
“This is a landmark achievement for Zambia and our police service stands to benefit,” Dr Simbyakula said.
He was speaking in Kafue yesterday during a pass-out parade of 257 paramilitary police officers which included 124 women.
Dr Simbyakula said Special Forces of the Turkish National Police will train Zambian paramilitary police officers in counter-terrorism, hostage negotiation and VIP protection, among others.
The minister, who was accompanied by his deputy Stephen Kampyongo and Kafue member of Parliament Obvious Mwaliteta, said Government wants to enhance security in the nation for economic growth.
Dr Simbyakula also said Government will do everything possible to recruit more police officers to increase the current establishment of 16,000 to 27,000 by 2016.
He urged the newly inducted police officers to uphold human rights.
“Guard against human rights abuses. Your role is to protect and not to harm,” he said.
Earlier, Inspector-general of Police Stella Libongani said the Zambia Police Service wants to reduce crime by over 50 percent by 2016.
“The police stand ready to combat organised crime, which has become a major challenge today,” Ms Libongani said.
She said the police want to secure the environment for political, social and economic development.
“We are a police force that wants to uphold professionalism, impartiality and accountability. Any police officer who will engage in criminal activities will be dealt with firmly,” Ms Libongani said.
Deputy Defence chiefs from the Zambia Army, Zambia Air Force, Zambia National Service and the Prisons Service witnessed the pass -out parade.

Why of all the countries Turkey? It’s a country imbedded in Islamic and sharia laws which is technically at war with the Kurds PKK fighters and forefront of removing Asad’s Syria Govt. A friend of Turkey might be potentially an enemy of the Kurds rebels, Iran and Syria. Do we know what we are bringing onto our soil?
