Umbro Charges ZESCO For Breach Lf Contract

UMBRO has charged Zesco United for breach of contract after the Ndola outfit used an Adidas kit during the Barclays Cup semi-final against Nkana.

Zesco media and public relations officer, Katebe Chengo confirmed in an interview that the club was awaiting the official letter from Umbro to know the specific consequences having already being verbally warned.

Chengo, however, said the club would pass on whatever charge the sponsor slaps on them to FAZ and Barclays because they raised the matter during the pre-match meeting but that the two parties were adamant.

“According to clause 7.2 of the kit sponsorship contract we have with Umbro, Zesco United is obliged to wear Umbro brands in all its football activities. We presented this to FAZ in our pre-match meeting but they were adamant. It’s unfortunate that we wore Adidas on Saturday. We received a verbal charge from Umbro on Sunday, they will officially write to us to charge us… we would like to apologise to Umbro. It was not our intention,” she said.

Nkana also uses Umbro but club chairman, John Chiwele said the club had an understanding and not a signed contract with quotations.

Barclays provides kit from the semi-finals to the finals of the competition.
