Catherine Phiri says she will not spoil the jubilee celebrations by losing her World Boxing Council silver bantamweight title to South Africa’s Bukiwe Nonina.
Addressing the press yesterday, Catherine said her training regime had been tough and that it would not be in vain.
“I want to give Zambians a jubilee present by winning. I train hard with this heat, and that is what will make me beat Nonina. My training is tough; I run 18 kilometres every morning, Catherine said.
Nonina’s manager Emmanuel Mutavhaksindu told Catherine in a teleconference call to be ready for her first defeat come November 22.
But Catherine told Mutavhaksindu to prepare his boxer for her worst birthday present.
Nonina will be fighting on her birthday on November 22.
“I hope you are not just training the mouth how to talk. I hope your boxer is also training to fight because she will be in for a shock,” said Catherine.
And Charles Manyuchi, who will be defending his WBC international bantamweight title against Colombia’s David Navaro, said he was more than ready for the fight.
