Katongo Needs Sympathy, Respect From All – Kalusha

KALUSHA Bwalya says the decision to drop Christopher Katongo from the national team entirely lies with the Chipolopolo technical bench.

And Bwalya says Katongo has sacrificed a lot for Zambia and deserves respect and sympathy from all well-meaning soccer fans.

“Chris Katongo needs to move on from the camp debacle, recover and give more to football and the nation of Zambia. I feel sad for what happened to Chris because the Katongo I know is a disciplined soldier, a dedicated footballer and a good family man. He may have made a mistake here and there but like in a football match, you can get a yellow card and even a red card but you have to come back stronger afterwards,” said Bwalya in an interview.

The FAZ president added: “Katongo has given his life to Zambian football and so deserves respect. We cannot crucify such a man like sadists. He needs sympathy from all of us. But because he needs to be a good example, Chris [Katongo] needs to recoup himself and come back stronger.”

Katongo was sent away from the Chipolopolo camp that was preparing for the game against Niger on October 15, when he was alleged to have skipped camp and spent a night in his girlfriend’s room. There were also reports of a fallout with the technical bench and accusations of being a bad influence within the camp.

And the friendly against Ivory Coast will be played at the National Heroes Stadium.

Well spoken ba Kalu…What happened to Chris is a wake up call to other players in the team. Senior players like Chris ought to exhibit high levels of discipline at all times…

I’m not a huge fan of Kalusha Bwalya owing to his inadequate leadership qualities but I think I totally agree with him on this one. What good will it do to go on crucifying Chris when he has already been punished. And this is a person who only two years ago put a smile on everyone of us due to his untiring efforts to make us proud. He at the moment obviously is going through grief with his wife and family…

Please Kalu leave the Technical bench alone. Do not devide them over Chris. We know the bench has a lot of loyalties towards to you but please remember Soccer is beyond you. Not only is Chris tired, but he is not encouraging good behaviour in the team. I always see him in the company of the likes Chisamba Lungu with all sorts of girls in major drinking spots in Lusaka. I do not think he has chosen a right path and it will be unfair to call anyone here sadist.

We thank Chris for what he did in 2012, but hei, we have moved on!

Word to Chris: Ask for forgiveness from soccer fans, the family and from yourself and then just retire. Do not wait until you miss a penalty like your godfather.

As human beings yes we are all not perfect but what kayonngo did is something that should not be encouraged in any sporting activities .katongo should apologise and think of a way of rekindling his reputation.we need discipline in our Zambian football if we are to reach a greater height .

The techical bench has not associated Katongo’s expulsion to any immoral behaviour.
His was purely tactical. So what do you want him to apologise for? In any case, do you apologise to human beings when you sin? given that they are also sinners. Rubish!
