HIV Vaccine Trials Set For Zambia
CLINICAL trials to ascertain the effectiveness of a new HIV/AIDS vaccine in Zambia and other southern African countries will start next year.
The vaccine known as RV 144 or the Thai vaccine, has shown 31.2 percent effectiveness to prevent the transmission of HIV.
The vaccine trial, which was conducted in Thailand found modest levels of protection among individuals who received it.
“This is the first time we have a vaccine promising, and we are excited. Though 31.2 percent might not be much to talk about, it is a big breakthrough,” said Mary Marovich, programme director – vaccine research in the division of AIDS at National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
She was speaking during the first HIV research for prevention 2014 Conference in Cape Town yesterday.
The RV 144 will be conducted in southern Africa because it is one of the areas with the highest levels of HIV infections.
An international initiative known as the “P5”, or Pox –Protein Public Private Partnership, is building on the RV144 trial data.
Dr Marovich said RV 144 trails will be conducted in southern Africa so that scientists understand and find out how the immune system works.
She said scientist are pursuing candidates that would help prevent HIV infections in HIV-negative people.
Dr Marovich said such vaccines may also help control the virus in people.
She said the RV 144 is a glimmer of hope, and scientists are confident that it will be the answer they have been looking for in the last 30 years.

A you sure that you will successively prevent the Fire of God from burning in the world of disobedient? I thought Repentance and Salvation through Jesus Christ is the only and the ultimate prevention to this deadly HIV which is as a result of God’s anger of sin. Thailand is a third world country with its own poor and undeveloped societies like us why would they come here in southern Africa to test the drugs? It’s 31.2% effective.What happens to the majority 68.8%? Phuck.

what are they using as an antigen? hope its not live atenueted vaccine or else we ll double da # of HIV infected children.let them vaccin thai children not africans.

They will be taking our Zambian brothers sisters parents children etc as trial specimens my question is why the Govt accepted such trial in Zambia especially from Thailand, it’s like Lesotho carrying out trials in Zambia.

can someone stop the rot. anyone in government who will allow this Thai vaccine trial on our people is a sellout. first lets do trials of our homegrown sondashi formula,before accepting ”Ebola type” of guinea trials on our unsuspecting HIV people.
can this be debated in parliament. i smell someone in the ministry of health has been bribed to push this Thai agenda.
when are we going to learn and acknowledge that we can find cures to our problems ?

The really nasty thing about all this is the fact that, once again, pharmaceutical companies test new drugs on African’s before any such permission is granted for western countries.

maybe there is someone ulilemo do u remember how dr bulaya started giving HIV patients food suppliments ati ma ARV when the same suppliment where even under clinical trials. ali yamo k3 billion by then
