Cops Search For Nchelenge BABY Killer

Police in Luapula are looking for a Congolese man who allegedly killed his twelve-month-old baby in Nchelenge.
Luapula Province police commissioner, Malcolm Mulenga, confirmed the development yesterday. The suspect only identified as Ilunga of Kafalo village, senior chief Mununga in Nchelenge district, was said to have murdered his daughter on Monday last week.
The incident occurred after Bethsheba Kanaki, 21, the wife to the suspect, failed to invite him to the table after she had finished cooking nshima. “The suspect began to beat the wife and in the process, the child was hit on the head and died,” Mulenga said. He said Kanaki did not inform members of his community on time about the incident, a situation which angered them.
“People were not happy with the mother of the baby for not informing them about what happened. They started beating her and this made her to run away.” He said Police rushed to the scene and picked the body of the child which was abandoned in a small grass thatched house.
“The mother to the deceased reported herself to the Police the following day,” said Mulenga who said Police suspect that Ilunga has fled the country.
