Patriotic Front national chairperson Inonge Wina has called on party members to reject schemes aimed at positioning or campaigning for anyone intending to run for President in the forthcoming by-election.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Wina said any attempts to circumvent the obligation to mourn president Michael Sata with dignity was alien, untraditional and should not be condoned by well-meaning citizens and friends of Zambia.
“My appeal to members of the party countrywide and to the general public is for them to continue performing the noble duty of mourning our late Republican president in a sincere and dignified manner,” she said.
“Today, I take this opportunity to join other leaders in the party in reiterating that as the nation mourns its departed great leader, at all levels of governance, [we] should show magnanimity by ensuring that the party continues to give moral support to the first family and the people of Zambia by attending events related to the presidential funeral in the districts and provinces.” Wina thanked party members and the general public for maintaining peace, unity and togetherness since president Sata died.
“I thank you all for the peace during the moment of great sorrow and untold grief for our country. It is the prayer of the leadership and the general membership of the PF that God grants the first family and the people of Zambia comfort and strength during this dark and trying period,” said Wina.
