HH Says UPND Is Ready For Presidential By-Election
United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema says his party is ready for the presidential by-election and it has started campaigning.
Mr Hichilema said this in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday.
“We are ready for the presidential by-election and we have started campaigning,” he said.
Mr Hichilema said President Sata did the best he could for Zambia and meant well but that the country needs to move forward.
The opposition leader also urged political parties to adhere to the rules stipulated in their constitutions when selecting presidential candidates to contest the by-election to avoid anarchy.
“This is not time to be driven by sectoral and partisan interests but the common good,” Mr Hichilema said.
He also commended Zambians for maintaining peace during the 14-day national mourning period in honour of the late President Sata and upholding culture.
Mr Hichilema appealed to the nation to move forward together in harmony, respect and common brotherly spirit.
He also said if the republican constitution provided for a running-mate, the expense of a presidential by-election would have been avoided.
“It is simply mind boggling that we must hold three Presidential elections within a space of six years,” he said.
Mr Hichilema said UPND will expeditiously deliver a new constitution if voted into office.

U wrong my bro, U can not compare Sata in opposition with HH, did u read how HH got to his position? that is enough to stop many to vote for him, he will just try to run for president but cant make it. He is also not the right person to advise on using the constitution to select presidential candidates in other parties when he used a Tonga UPND constitution.
First he has to apologize for taking Sakwiba Sikota’s position and apologize to BRE maybe he can get votes from Southern, West and half Lsk, he should forget about Eastern, CB, Luapula, Muchinga, Central etc.

Who can vote for a thief. Edgar was blacklisted by LAZ for stealing client money. He is also a drunkard. You people think every Zambian is a fool? No we are not and we are not going to vote using emotions this time around. Simply coz Sata put him there does not mean he is the one to run this nation. Since when has Edgar Lungu been more of a politician than Guy Scott or HH?

If Hubukala Hubwandi sees it expensive to have another presidential election within 6 yrs let him be considerate as a caring Zambian by letting Scott continue the PF mandate for next 2 yrs. People will respect him for that and might get another province to vote for him in 2016. For now yes he’s wasting money.

I agree with you 100%. From start I have been of the opinion that Guy Scott must continue until 2016, thereafter have presidential elections. But from the look of things, PF want to impose a thief and a drunkard by the name of Edgar Lungu and expect us to sit at akimbo. Why should we do that? Guy Scott is more black than a lot of PF cadres. He has been in the limelight of Zambian politics from time in memorial; infact since the reign of KK. He has also been with Sata from inception. How then is he considered a non Zambian by the very people who were present when Sata appointed him Vice President? This is hypocrisy at its highest. If Guy Scott will not be allowed to continue and stand for presidency until 2016 then we would rather have HH. Finito.

An opposition leader cannot win a presidential by-election. Zambians will be foolish to allow a situation where a minority president takes the helm of the country.
