Students Protest RB ‘Return’

Students from major universities and colleges across the country yesterday protested against Rupiah Banda’s impending return to contest as a candidate in the forthcoming presidential by-election.
The students protested against what they termed old leadership. Clad in white T-shirts with messages reading: “Abash 70 years and above”, the students demanded young and energetic political leaders. Students’ representative council president Gerrad Chiluba, who led the students, said the youths would not entertain political parties that would endorse candidates above 70 years of age. Chiluba said their first protest was against Banda returning to active politics.
“We as students have said enough is enough and have decided we need to play an active role in decision-making. We, literate students have distanced ourselves from political students. When youths are pushing for an agenda, students distance themselves, now we’ll play an active role.
We are fed up of old leadership and first we say we cannot allow Rupiah [Banda] to come back,” Chiluba said. “We shall not allow it; even the Bible says after the age of 70, someone begins to retrogress. Abash 70 years, what does Rupiah want? No, no, no!” The slogan-chanting students marched along Alick Nkhata Road carrying banners against old leaders.
The students said Zambia had attained 50 years of independence and it was time the new generation of leaders took over.  The students were from Copperbelt University, University of Zambia, Mulungushi University, National Institute of Public Administration and Chainama. Last week, Banda told his supporters at the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court that he would deal with the issue of his comeback to active politics after burial of late president Michael Sata.
MMD insiders say the 77-year-old former head of state was planning to wrestle the MMD presidency from Nevers Mumba, whom he has been avoiding to meet over his reported comeback.
Meanwhile, Mumba’s communications director, Raphael Nakacinda in a statement on Monday, stated that if Banda’s return to politics was good for the MMD and Zambia as a whole, only a civil, honest and democratic process had to be followed to reach an agreement in a noble manner. “This process would involve undertaking a cost-benefit analysis and agreeing whether it would be in the best interest of the Banda family to subject the old man to another presidential battle three years after losing a costly election,” according to Nakacinda.

UNIP, MMD pf are dead because they were parties formed out of vindictiveness hence their operating on dictatorial tendencies which are no longer viable and compatible with this era. KK 27yrs: FTJ 10; LM 7; RB 3 and MCS 3 this significantly adds up to 50. Levy died August, Chiluba september and sata October, can this be a mere coincidence? No, God is saying something which we must pick as Zambians.Going for pf, mmd or UNIP will be retrogressive as they ‘re the same.

RB is confused. He is sick and does not even walk properly. If Zambian allow RB then we may end with two State funerals in 2015. Zambia cannot afford this. Its a big drain on our economy. What RB and his sons are thinking is that they will be off the hook of their court cases if returns to active politics. But they are forgetting that he will be insulted over his several sexual escapades both in Lusaka and Chipata.
