UPDATED: 63 PF MPs Endorse Lungu’s Candidature

Sixty three (63) Ministers, Deputy Ministers and Patriotic Front Members of Parliament have endorsed the candidature of PF Secretary General Edgar Lungu as the party’s presidential candidate.

And Police have clashed with PF cadres at Cabinet Office where Acting President Guy Scott is scheduled to hold a press briefing on the resolution of the consultative meeting.

The resolution to endorse Mr Lungu was made during a consultative meeting held at Government Complex in Lusaka this morning.

Announcing the resolution, Kafue Member of Parliament Obvious Mwaliteta said there was no need for the party to go for the General Conference to elect its presidential candidate.

Mr Mwaliteta adds that even if President Michael Sata was alive he would have endorsed Mr Lungu as evidenced his decision to assign him with so many responsibilities including leaving him with the instruments of power before he left for London for medical treatment.

The Central Committee has since been petitioned to adopt Mr Lungu as the PF presidential candidate.

PF National Chairperson Inonge Wina who received the petition says she will take it to the Acting PrEDGAR LUNGU 1esident for consideration.

Speaking to journalists shortly after endorsing Mr. Lungu, Chiefs and Traditional affairs Minister Nkandu Luo accused some known senior PF officials belonging to what she has termed as the ‘cartel’ of wishing President Sata dead.

Professor Luo says the way they have handled the whole issue shows that they were waiting for President Sata to die so that they take over the party leadership.

Professor Luo says Mr. Lungu was in Angola for official duties when former Republican President Michael Sata ordered that he returns to remain the Acting President in his absence.

And Kafue Member of parliament Obvious Mwaliteta says they will not rest until Mr. Lungu ascends to the presidency.

And Home Affairs Deputy Minister Steven Kampyongo has warned PF cadres against being used by some known individuals to champion their cause of stern action.

Mr. Kampyongo says his ministry will ensure that there is order in the country.

Among the notable high ranking officials present at the meeting included Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili, PF Secretary General Edgar Lungu, Lands Minister Mwansa Kapeya, Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Joseph Katema Health Minister Joseph Kasonde.

Others were PF Central Committee Members Willie Nsanda, Mumbi Phiri, Mwenya Musenge, Ngosa Simbyakula who is also Home affairs Minister, among others.

And supporters of Mr Lungu broke into wild jubilation upon hearing that the consultative meeting had endorsed their preferred candidate.

Earlier Police in riot gear dispersed the placard carrying cadres who were chanting solidarity slogans for Mr Lungu and denounced acting President Guy Scott.

Letter on succession of the late President, Michael Chilufya Sata
To my sisters and brothers of the land, Zambia,
    and to Honourable Edgar Lungu
    by Jean-Marie Chanda, Ndola
    – Edgar Lungu’s name is on the lips of so many people, advocating for him to succeed, in accordance with the will of the big man, our Late President, as it believed.
    – It is always said that people have to regard with respect the last words of the dying person. For sure, the dying person’s words are considered as not emanating from his flesh but from his spirit. Meaning they are of great value and power.
    – Now if we have to respect the words of the departed man, this implies that we have to implement what is asked for.
    – In this context, all the PF members and all Zambian patriots have to give respect to one whom the majority of citizens mourned so profusely , in an unprecedented manner, in remembrance of his robust achievements in every Province of the country in just three years of reign.
    – This calls for all those eligible PF members to respect the now late President’s will if they really respected him while he was alive.
    – This also tells the appointed person, Edgar Lungu, to humble himself and to vow to fulfill the wish of his predecessor, the late President, Sata. Putting in mind that the boot that the late President wore is too big for him to wear, and therefore, he must at all cost run to others for consultation and support. No man is an island.
    – To succeed the late President the following are important principles:
    o Be a God fearing person – The Ten Commandments ;
    o Be a hard worker and innovative;
o Do not segregate over tribal lines, ethnic groups, regions, etc.
    o Be gender sensitive
o Be a lover of the poor
    o Be simple
    o Be brave
o Listen to the plights of the people of Zambia.
The foundation is already laid for you and your other leaders; just commit yourselves and pray to God for help fulfill the plan.
May God bless us all and allow us to continue enjoying peace and development.

Now the rot is coming out, MPs wont vote on behalf of Zambians they would have picked a presidential candidate based on what people want from constituencies and provinces and that only comes thru the conventional conference of some sort, 5000 say from each province would have been a good number i.e about 50,000 voting for a common candidate, on the other hand we say HH is not democratic but are we?

How did HH ascend to UPND top leadership after Mazoka died?Did UPND go for convention?the only called a NEC meeting and adopted HH who later won. What the PF NEC is within the law according to the PF constitution and NEC is the highest organ which can decide the wayforward on any agenda brought to the party.MMD did the same when chosing Rhupia Banda in 2008 elections after Mwanawasa’s death.Who ever is not happy in PF,let the join FDD,MMD,ADD or NAREP

Whether Edgar has been adopted or not by the PF MPs, the culture of using cadres should come to an end. Are we being ruled by party cadres?

    November 13, 2014 at 4:54 pm

Awe….let them go for convention as the Acting President has put it.NO SHORT CUTS…The same MPs should go and endorse Edgar Lungu if the want. Why are they hiding?MPs cannot vote on behalf of the Zambian people that is a taboo in our culture.Let them battle it out.
All Provinces should participate to know which one is their preferred Candidate for Presidential material to rule for next few months to come before we go for the 2016 General Elections.
Kuti nabashilingile ati ndefwaya ukuba President.Mweo anthutu please mukazhikhumbuka ko anaayanu.

This is Zambia’s greatest problem. We are not democratic at the party level. The issue of endorsing or ‘anointing’ leaders is undemocratic much as it may appear good. It belongs to a monarch or a dynasty. Let us follow the due process. If Lungu is so popuplar why is he so scared of going to the convention? Let us stop the nonsense of saying since UPND,or MMD did not go to the convention then we should not. Let there be a break with the past and let us embrace a paradigm shift. The way I see it Lungu is a power hungry opportunist who wants to come in through the back door. This is definitely not the kind of person we need for a president.

Am I sick and tired of Lungu immaturity, a cry baby who can’t even wait 4 90 simple days because of selfness. People who merely because Sata left him so he shld president are kind of people who can’t think beyond tomorrow. They are many ways of respecting the dead but this is a democratic country with laws and regulations that go beyond one’s death. Late President Sata is also just a person like me and you he is NOT a god!!!!!! He too has errors in many areas so can the living wit potential to think do the right thinking. Scot fired this immature guy and we all thot he wasn’t fair when truth Scot was saving the part and country. Imagine hw far in the right direction we would be going without the cry baby Lungu

NKONDE….YUO ARE RIGHT ON, BUT THE REAL TRUTH IS THAT THOSE PEOPLE PROPPING EDGAR FOR PRESIDENCY ARE ACTUALLY NOT GENUINE PF. THEY HAVE BEEN HIRED FOR MONEY TO KILL PF BY SPONSORING A WEAK, POROUS CANDIDATE LIKE EDGAR SO THAT HH OF UPND CAN HAVE A FIELD DAY COME ELECTION TIME.

OPEN YOUR EYES YOU DIE-HARD PF AND RESCUE THE BOAT BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

HH IS SMILING THAT HIS PLAN IS WORKING.

what puzzles me is decisions made by so called educated leaders. honestly, can edgar a lawyer for that matter ablogate the party constitution by hoping for a shortcut? how much more trust can we have given that he assumes the power of presidency? he can as well say no to our national constitution. my vote is secret.

All those supporting Guyscot are muzungu anikonde. It also looks like they are from UPND just to bring confusion in PF. I challenge them to advise HH how to scoop position 2 in the upcoming by elections.

WHY EDGAR LUNGU CAN’T WIN ELECTION FOR PF WHETHER ADOPTED THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE OR ELECTED BY THE GENERAL CONFERENCE: EDGAR IS THE LAWYER WHO WAS STEALING MONEY FROM HIS CLIENTS MEANING HE IS CORRUPT ASK HIM, EDGAR IS THE DRUNKARD WHO DRINKS CARELESSLY ASK HIM, EDGAR CAN’T SPEAK FOR THE POOR PEOPLE, WHEN SATA LEFT EDGAR TO ACT AS PRESIDENT SATA WAS NOT WELL SO SATA DID NOT MAKE A CORRECT DECISION MAYBE HE WAS JUST USED BY THOSE SUPPORTING EDGAR TO ENDORSE HIM ASK MULENGA SATA, EDGAR HAS FAILED HIS CONSTITUENCY ASK THE PEOPLE FROM HIS CONSTITUENCY, WHAT POSITIVE RECORD CAN YOU POINT FOR EDGAR NOTHING. SO IF PF WANT TO INSIST ON ENDORSING EDGAR LET THEM GO AHEAD THEY WILL BE DISAPPOINTED BY THE ELECTORATES WHO KNOWS MORE ABOUT EDGAR THAN THOSE CENTRAL COMMITTEE MAKING THE LOUDEST NOISE IN THIS COUNTRY
