Girl, 12, Caught By A Crocodile

A 12 year old girl Chirundu resident was on Monday 10/11/2014 caught by a crocodile leaving a leg only. Charity Tembo, who was the niece to Kabaso Mwewa Insaka, was caught by a beast when she went to wash some plates in Kafue River at pontoon around 16.00 hours. And a combined team of police and fire rescue team from the council on 13/11/2014 managed to recover a leg of Charity which has since been buried and they have continued to search for the body of Anthony.
Zambezi River can be attributed to lack of sufficient water in chirundu District. People are being tempted to go the river due to erratic supply of water in the District and because of the hot weather many people are tempted to go to the river and i am appealing to Lusaka water and Sewerage Company and the Government in particular to consider expanding Chirundu water reticulation system that can cater for entire community.

In my village us who come from where playing in water is a daily thing there is nothing wrong for a 12yr to go to the river it was just unfortunate she was “caught” borrowing TUMFWEKO English. At 10 I could swim in the lake, do fishing, washing plates and clothes, wash cassava – tute all in snakes and crocodile infested waters. It was normal but once in a long while people could be attacked even that people believed fyakubantu because crocs kept a distance from humans

Very sad indeed, can you imagine that we have just come from the Golden jubilee celebrations. 50 years after independence we still have such cases. The local authorities or should I say the central govt have really failed the us.
