Doctors in China are attempting to grow a new face on the chest of a former technician who lost his right eye and nose after he was severely injured when he was electrocuted.
Yan Jianbin now has a basketball-sized ‘head’ growing on his chest and doctors will soon carve a face onto it which will be reattached to his damaged face.
Jianbin lost his right eye and nose when he opened the door of a high-voltage transformer to peer inside while working in China’s Hebei Province and was electrocuted.

Pioneering: The face markings have been designed by doctors
It has been six months since the pioneering treatment began at Shenyang Amy General Hospital.
The process involves injecting saline water into Yan’s chest to expand the skin and now that it has expanded enough doctors will attempt to create facial features.
They say the whole plastic surgery will be broken down into five phases and will take two years.

Care: Doctors hope to carve a face into his chest
The first two phases involve building a new nose using part of his rib cartilage and newly-created skin.
Next, new blood vessels and arteries will be created, with the fourth phase being the face transplantation and finally fine-tuning Yan’s new facial features.

Thats good medical pioneering, though I have a problem with use of saline water without the risk of creating hypertension and excessive dehydration risking kidney disease (or failure), strokes and heart failure. Maybe risks involved are outweighed by his cosmetic results from the Op you never know. Anyhow, thats some medical feat.
