Lungu Can’t Be Candidate For Party Presidency And SG At The Same Time -Scott

Acting President Dr Guy Scott says Edgar Lungu cannot be PF secretary general and at the same time contest the party presidency.
But Lungu yesterday said he remains secretary general until the party picks a candidate for the January 20, 2015 presidential election. In a statement, Lungu stated that he has not resigned as PF secretary general but has simply taken leave of absence. He stated that he had received several concerns and queries following a story that circulated in some sections of the media stating that he had resigned or relinquished his position as secretary general of the PF.
“I am hereby stating for the record that I have not resigned my position as SG. I have simply taken leave of absence or temporarily stepped aside until our party finalises a decision to select who shall run for the position of party president.
With this statement, I wish to re-affirm that I, Edgar C Lungu, remain Secretary General of the PF until such a time that a substantive candidate has been named to contest the 20th January 2015 by-election. In my absence, the Deputy Secretary General Mrs Bridgette Atanga will act as the Secretary General of the Party,” read Lungu’s statement.
But acting President Scott said he did not understand Lungu ‘s contention because all those contesting the party presidency needed to relinquish whatever positions they held. He said in an interview before announcing Atanga’s appointment yesterday afternoon that Lungu could not be secretary general of the party when he is contesting the presidency. Acting President Scott said he did not understand why Lungu wanted to hang on the position of secretary general when the rules for contesting the party presidency were very clear. “I don’t understand what he is saying. He is nervous…Ms Atanga is the substantive secretary general of the party, ‘chapwa’ (that is all),” he said. “He can’t be a candidate for the party presidency and at the same time be the party secretary general. And to say that he is on holiday, it is meaningless.” When asked if there was a possibility of him retaining his position if he withdraws from the contest for the party presidency, acting President Scott said that could be looked into. “We can arrange that. But for now, as long as he is a candidate for the presidency, his position as secretary general ceases,” said acting President Scott who also appointed Anthony Kasolo as the party’s deputy secretary general.
And during the briefing at his office, acting President Scott said the PF is still checking on the qualifications of all candidates that have applied for the PF presidency. He said the scrutiny would specifically look at the parentage clause.
“We have a friendly process contrary to what we have been reading that there is chaos, scramble and confusion. It is democracy, that is all it is and with the latest happenings, it looks like we shall hold the general conference sometime next week,” said acting President Scott.

Who told u Scott was a danger, just support Lungu if u want, are u telling us Sata will allow what Lungu is doing if he was here. Lungu has plenty of short cuts and is worried to lose both

Ba Lungu what are you afraid of? You seem to be so desperate to have power. Let Guy do his job and you do yours. All these MPs need to look after their constituencies and stop thinking of only allowances and ministerial positions. What God has given no man can take away! If you are the chosen one, you are the chosen one. If you are not good enough please let those that deserve it contest and you stay out.

How can the AP/vp appoint anyhow and claim to follow the party constitution? Educate me. Why can’t Scott first communicate to Lungu before replacing him? There is drama in pf. Let us wait and see how things will unfold.

You are being naive. If the Party has guidelines stating that one has to relinquish his position when they file in their candidacy for Party President, why the heck should Scott inform Lungu? Lungu is just being an ignorant f@ck. Power hungry bon of sitch!

Silly statement how old is Lungu? actually a lawyer, didn’t he know what he was doing is wrong and against party rules and Republican laws?

Guy Scot does not mean well for Zambia. Why has he insisted to fight Lungu? All the aspiring candidates have not reliquised or resigned from there positions in PF but why just on Lungu? Has Kambwili resigned? What about Lubinda and Bob Sichinga? Is it fair?

EL is full of unknowm fear and full of shortcuts hence cannot be trusted to run the country may be let him just persue Doctrate in empting “bottles” at ZB college.
He said he is just on leave to try his luck, sure, as if he is not a lawyer or he obtained law certificate with D+ and Cs grades only.
    (1) When applying for leave its either approved or rejected by ones boss but EL case I think Dr GS was not even served with leave application form.
    (2) When he is on leave and wants to retain his position in PF may be it can be accepted if he goes to another party and try his luck there not in PF.

@Chichi,Scot has failed to Guide the party, can you imagine if UPND in the first place had invited applications for those wishing to stand for there party’s presidency?

My friends scott is trying to impose a cartel as a pf candidate and lungu’s team is aware of that. Scott doesn’t want Lungu to be president imagin 8 provinces wat Lungu who are you to saw no,just tell your cartel that yazanda guys.

    • The Truth

      November 22, 2014 at 6:48 am

Guy is under the influence of the cartel. EL is the man the cartel fear a lot and this is why Guy is seemingly so hard on EL. Indeed why have the other aspirants not relinquished their positions in PF? Why has Guy disregarded the Central Committee on major pronouncements he has made so far? Guy is seen to be championing democracy and yet doing the opposite in the background. This is why his fellow PF leaders are failing to trust him. If Guy can’t explain his actions to fellow leaders, he is on for a tough time and this has the potential of splitting the PF.

Dull chaps! You hear people talking about an imaginary cartel, then you also join in to talk like a headless goose. Problem is, most modern Zambians have never experienced war. Ask your friends in DRC.

It is common sense that Mr. Lungu is afraid to enter the arena as a candidate. He is going to be defeated. And if he resigns from his pesent position, then he is going to remain jobless. Where is going to find another job? With the bank they have not forgiven him for stealing while he was in employment with them. And with his member of parliament position, his constuence has already taken distance due to bad drinking habits and as a lawyer,no customer will dare to bring his or her case to him for fear of being robbed.Mr. Guy has scored another point. Mr. Lungu has his roots in MALAWI. His disqualification is unavoidable. If I was Lungu, I would keep quiet and enjoy the present he was given. From nowhere to become a PF secretary.

You people never cease to amaze me. Lungu Knows that he is supposed to relinquish his position as SG if he is going to contest the presidence that is why if you saw the clip when he was submiting his nomination documents to scott, he himself said he had relinquished his position. So how does it become Scott’s problem. By the way every contender is doing so
