MMD-Mumba, ADD, UPND In Poll Pact

THE opposition MMD, UPND and ADD have entered into an alliance ahead of the presidential election.

During a briefing at parliament buildings yesterday, Chembe MMD member of parliament, Mwansa Mbulakulima, who was flanked by Mazabuka UPND member of parliament Garry Nkombo said Zambia will experience the best leadership under the alliance.

“In the spirit of the motto One Zambia One nation, we resolved that going into this election of 20th January 2015, we the undersigned people would like to express through this communique our unfettered desire to bind ourselves as one united alliance under the leadership of our respective political parties to work together for the common good of the citizens of Zambia. We further pledge that given the opportunity by the majority of the voters, we further commit that Zambia will experience the best leadership that they have ever had,” Mbulakulima said.

He said Zambia required a transition of leadership from the old generation to the younger ones.
Mbulakulima said there was an agreement between MMD president Nevers Mumba and UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema.

“These negotiations started before the wrangles in the MMD. These two political parties depend on us as members of parliament. We play a critical role and we have agreed that we will campaign together and that an alliance will do us good,” he said.

Asked on who would lead the alliance, Mbulakulima said: “The issue of leadership is not insurmountable.”

And Nkombo said it would be preemptive at this stage to assume that Hichilema would stand as the candidate but that he was one of the options.

Asked where this alliance which was seeking to have the younger generation take up the leadership was leaving Rupiah Banda who has been endorsed by the MMD to stand on their ticket, Nkombo said: “As members of parliament, we are advocates of a fresher beginning. This alliance excludes his excellency Mr Banda but that does not stop him from aspiring.”
Mbulakulima also said a technical team of members from all the parties in the alliance was working on modalities of the economic, social and political policies.

Out of the 60 opposition members of parliament in the house, 48 signed the communique and Mbulakulima claimed the others were still thinking about it.

Those that have not signed the communique include, Mwandi MMD member of parliament Michael Kaingu, Catherine Namugala, Kapembwa Simbao, Michael Katambo for Masaiti, Lufwanyama MMD member of parliament Annie Chungu, Lumezi MMD member of parliament Isaac Banda, Kasenengwa’s Victoria Kalima, Chipangali MMD member of parliament Vincent Mwale, Chipata Central MMD member of parliament Reuben Mtolo, Chadiza MMD member of parliament Allan Mbewe, Sinda MMD member of parliament Levy Ngoma and his counterpart from Chitambo, Mushili Malama.

Tha alliance indeed. They should tell who will be the candidate for the alliance. I know that is where the trouble starts from. Each one of them would want to go to State house. Just watch the pace….

Weakness and no trust for their parties to win an election. Now when the go in a pact which manifesto are they going to use. These are confused politicians who only want employment from the voters. But as electrolate we shall teach them a lesson.I urge PF to quickly reunite.
