PF Cadres Clash, Leaving 6 Injured
Six PF cadres yesterday sustained injuries after a group suspected to be from another faction stoned the bus they were on.
According to eyewitnesses, the machete-wielding cadres, who were using about four buses, waylaid the other group, which was coming from a party meeting in Southern Province at the flyover on Independence Avenue. “When they (PF cadres) got to the Kafue flyover, there were buses loaded with cadres, whom we believe [are] in support of one of the aspiring candidates for the PF presidency. These other buses came and blocked the small bus which was coming from Southern Province,” the witness said. “The other buses were hooting and flagged down the driver of the small bus.
So when he slowed down, they blocked the bus and immediately, they started throwing stones at the bus carrying passengers. The windows were shuttered. These cadres had pangas and stones.” Police acting spokesperson, Esther Katongo, also confirmed that the injured PF cadres were coming from Southern Province, where they had gone to attend a party meeting.
“They started throwing stones and six people were injured, and we have since given them medical reports to be attended to at the hospital. The bus is damaged; we are keeping it as evidence. We have instituted investigations to find out who these people are so that they are brought to book,” said Katongo.
