THE PF is being killed by its own members and those wrangles are giving us an opportunity to win the forthcoming presidential election, says Christian Democratic Party president Dan Pule.
And Reverend Pule says Zambians must not entertain political parties premised on tribal inclinations.
Speaking at a press briefing in Kitwe yesterday, Rev Pule said the indiscipline being exhibited in the PF had seriously divided its members to an extent where it would not be able to stand as a united front.
“What is happening in the PF is also happening in the MMD; Rupiah Banda has resurfaced and he wants to rule again by replacing my brother Nevers Mumba. They are all fighting over presidency. It’s not our business, it’s unfortunate but the more they quarrel, the more support they lose, and that is working to our advantage. We will win the presidential election slated for January 20, 2015. We are a serious contender,” Rev Pule said.
He said once elected president, his priority would be to reduce the price of mealie-meal to ensure that all Zambians had at least a meal because poverty levels in the country were unacceptably high.
He said his party had identified education as a cornerstone of the country’s development and that he would introduce free education from grade one to grade 12.
“I worked in the Ministry of Finance as a deputy minister in the Chiluba regime. I know how a budget should be done to protect the interests of the poor. The PF government has failed to do that. On our part, we will enhance infrastructure development while improving people’s living standards through the empowerment of citizens,” Rev Pule said.
He further said churches must support him as he would not victimise any religious groups that were worshiping in schools and that his government would create a conducive environment for them to put up church buildings.
“Christianity in our reign would be taken seriously and that’s why we will introduce Bible studies as a required subject in schools,” Rev Pule said.
Meanwhile, Rev Pule said Zambians must be wary of some political parties that were characterised by serious tribalism because they would destroy the nation.
He said all political parties needed to have a national character but there were parties that were only thriving in certain regions because of tribal inclinations.
“It will be extremely dangerous for a nation to have such a party form government. Let’s condemn tribalism by rejecting such political parties,” Rev Pule said.
