Zambians React To A Circulating Graphic Video Depicting A Maid Brutalising An Under Five Child
Singer DaputsaNkhata, popularly known as Sista D, has condemned a circulating graphic video depicting a maid brutalising an under five child.
Sista D, who is also a child’s rights activist, advised parents to constantly monitor their children to avoid abuse at the hands of maids. A home surveillance video, originating from Uganda, went viral on social media a week ago showing a maid beating up a baby while forcibly trying to feed her. The one minute 57 second footage picked by an internal security camera shows the young woman, believed to be a maid, hurling commands at the baby in the living room. After several slaps on the baby’s face, the maid begins to eat the baby’s food while gazing at what seemed to be a television set in front of her. The baby tries to sit up but immediately starts to vomit on the furniture.
The maid then pushes the baby to the floor where she lands face down and proceeds to spank her. The child lets out a deafening cry but the maid grabs an object and repeatedly spanks her on the buttocks as she continues crying helplessly. After viewing the video, Sista D said she would equally beat up such a maid. “It’s evil to do such a thing to a baby and I can’t imagine a woman doing that to a child; I wonder if she has ever given birth and has the feeling of a mother and emotions that come with having a child,” she said. Sista D said not everyone was born to love children and the job of being a maid should only be taken by those with a passion for children.
And Singer Danny Siulapwa warned that similar abuses may be happening in Zambia and urged parents to keep an eye on their maids. “It should be an eye opener that despite trusting people with our children, we need to keep an eye on them.
These things probably happen in a number of houses,” he said. “She (the Ugandan maid) should be investigated instead of just being arrested because I don’t think any human being would do that.” Danny further urged maid centres to ensure people were properly trained to serve in Zambian homes.
“We need maids who are sensible and have been taken through proper training so those companies involved in that should take their roles seriously,” said Danny.
The Ugandan maid was reportedly arrested and remanded in Luzira Prison in Kampala and her charge was charge from child battering to attempted murder.

maids in most cases are poorly paid especially in zambia.it is safer to get a trained maid and you pay her well to avoid her venting her frustration on an innocent baby.we must not risk the lives of our babies

It may be real. My maid used to sexually abuse my son (He was only two years old). Only found out when she was gone and after my son was old enough to realise that what the maid was doing to him was wrong. A lot goes in homes when parents are away working or doing other things. Be cautious.

The only time my maid was “alone” with my baby was when she was hanging clothes at the backyard.. and i heard every sound of excitement that my child made from playing outside.

maids are very bad nowadays, I had 4 maids and they all behaved same way. But thank to my daughter that even at 2 years she was telling me everything.

Surely parents have to be very careful since some maids may be insane.
Be informed that the sole responsibility for the welfare of the child lies squarely in the hands of the parents, not the maids. So be sure u understand the maids u employ.

All women, retire from work and go back to being Full Tine Housewives. Go back to the time when we as children were raised by Non-career women. You have no guarantee that “humble looking” animal will be kind to your precious child.

What that maid did to the innocent child was bad, and cannot be justified in any way. On the flip side, there are some maids who are very good, I am saying this looking at the reactions from the readers (and please believe me I was also shocked at what I saw). We have had a maid for close to 14 years now (we have four children) and she was God sent! She treats the kids like her own and we have never had any major issues with her.

What the maid above did cannot be justified in anyway. Also if we limit the responsibility of a woman to only looking after children, then we might as well stop taking a girl child to school. Moreover not every woman is married and she needs to go for work in order for her to feed and take the same child to school.

Noooo not just currently.. it has always been like that…the maids either eat the good food meant for the child and give it sh!t or will kick the sh!t out of your child. That’s why my house help is there to help me when I’m around.. not to take over my household.
