RB’s Son Says He Has Not Betrayed His Father By Endorsing HH

Former President Rupiah Banda’s son, Andrew, says he has not betrayed his father by endorsing United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema’s candidature in the forthcoming presidential elections.
Mr Banda said he loves his father but it was wrong for him to return to active politics and to jeopardise his retirement benefits.
He said this in Chipata yesterday when he featured on a Breeze FM radio programme called Political Hour.
“I have not betrayed anybody.  My Father never consulted me about his comeback but this time, I feel it is not right for him. I fear for my father,” Mr Banda said.
He said according to the constitution, Mr Banda risks losing his salary, which is 80 percent that of a sitting President, including the house Government is building for him.
Mr Banda said those misleading his father to contest the presidential elections should instead ask their parents to stand instead because campaigns “will soon heat up”.
He also castigated people accusing him of insulting his father for endorsing Mr Hichilema’s candidature in the presidential election.
He said individuals that have surrounded his father are allegedly misleading him that he can win the forthcoming presidential elections when they deserted him when he lost the 2011 polls.
Mr Banda said he has been receiving insults on phone since he endorsed Mr Hichilema’s candidature.

Zambian make me sick, when you visit other countries you feel so much pain to see the kind of development as though you are not in African, and the neighboring countries. jealous, greedy , envy, and selfishness are the worse enemies that have destroyed this country.
Zambians are always looking at politics from the regional angle not wanting the best the country as a whole deserves. let us stop tribal, regional politics, we all stand to benefit from sound economic polities of good leadership. in most cases these politicians enjoy only with their close family members the rest of us voters wallow in poverty. can we for once work up because we do not each tribal politics. infact the people that sing about tribal politics are the ones whose hands are dirty, yet point accusing fingers at others. but with them no matter how clear it is to the public they are not ashamed at all but want to hind it in the name of it being not what it is.
we need a leader to can sell internationally to the whole world, syllabus is changing, you need new curriculum to understand new world dynamics. we need leaders who can debate issues with colleague world leaders, a leader the whole world would take time to listen to.
colleagues, it is uncustomary in Zambian to talk the bad side of the dead, but all me to ask you how many leaders of world caliber apart from neighboring countries for obvious reasons attended our state funeral. and are we content with that, do we take pride for that.
surely, Zambian, we are only digging our graves deeper. Zambia is not one region or tribe, it is the whole country at large, no one tribe is superior, speaking the loudest is not wisdom nor intelligent. your pride has left Zambia trailing at the back, cant you please swallow your pride and think of a big picture.
give HH a chance, if you say he offers nothing because he is young, then you are simply saying you are talking nonsense because you are not on the old generation so leave the people to decide. HH was an employee at not in government, privatization was a government policy. Besides, every African nation underwent privatization as a conditionality by the world bank. the same privatization has brought development to other countries in Africa. Zambia mismanaged it because they did not understand it, and most unfortunately politician used it for corrupt means and lost its benefits.
perhaps it is as a result of putting leaders in office that speak the loudest but lack knowledge. it need to know the dynamics on modern economics. not experience because you need technocrats to fix it when it derails.
