Dear editor,
Reference; Exorbitant Tuition fees at Lusaka Nursing Institute of Applied Science
I write to display my displeasure in the manner the above named school is conducting itself. I understand the reason why we have private schools is to compliment government’s efforts to provide quality education. We have few government schools hence the mushrooming of private schools.
My daughter was not picked from a few Government Nursing schools in Zambia where she applied for many years now despite having good results and passing their test due to the high levels of corruption associated in picking candidates. In the end, we decided to send her to the above named school which is situated at 9 Miles along the Great North road in Lusaka. When they started we were paying K8 830 as tuition fees without accommodation and food. What is surprising is that, they have increased the fees this year to K 12 650!!!!
Having in mind what is happening in our country with the wage freeze still in place, how are we going to manage paying all that because we are not getting any increment? What is the role of the General Nursing Council? Is it just to monitor the facilities? What about in monetary terms? Who monitors these private schools? As much as we want to educate our children, what is happening at the moment at the above named school is very unfair especially to us parents who cannot manage. The increment is too much. Besides, rumor has it that they enroll a big number in the first year only to chase them in the following years on insignificant issues as if they are just interested in using their money for developing their school and thereafter chase them. I am appealing to the administration to reconsider their adjustment for the sake of the poor ones like myself. I am also appealing to the government, the Minister of Health and Permanent secretary to please look at that school and many other schools that are taking advantage of the poor. The fees are just too much.
Concerned parent.
Training a nurse is very expensive ask MoH permanent secretary

thats a private college and government cannot regulate the fees.
For sure these schools need to b controlled. Every country regulates Educational Institutions.
This is what you get when you just pick anything from other Web sites and dump in wrong places.
When you decided to go to a PRIVATE institution government control ceases. It’s private. Yes they ve all the rights to increase to any price just as much as u ve all the rights to shift your kid to another school. Govt can only regulate if a majority of its people fall in that ‘exorbitant prices’ bracket. As it is little you can do but pay.
that amount is it being paid per term, per semester or the whole year if it is for a term then that is bullshit government should do something even if it is a private school
