Zambia midfielder Kondwani Mtonga suffered a double blow on Monday in India when NorthEast United’s hopes of a debut playoff place were dimmed.
The defensive midfielder suffered an injury in the first half of NorthEast’s 3-0 away defeat at second placed FC Goa who are coached by Brazilian legend Zico.
Kondwani limped off in the opening 35 minutes of the match with Goa leading 1-0.
His compatriot and ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder Isaac Chansa, who also started the match, was substituted in the 63rd minute.
NorthEast are now third from bottom in the initial season of the eight-team league and two points off the pace of the top four playoff spots after twelve games played on 13 points.
