MMD ‘Rebel’ MPs Face Expulsion
Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) President Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba says the former ruling party has instituted disciplinary procedures against Members of Parliament who have resolved to support UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema with a view of suspending or expelling them from the party.
Dr Mumba says the MMD leadership has received numerous complaints from the constituencies affected and that some of them have already instituted disciplinary procedures against the erring MPs.
He says it is absurd and unacceptable for MMD MPs who got into parliament through the hard work and sweat of the party structures to be now campaigning for a rival candidate and even have the cheek to tell their fellow MPs to quit the party and join the UPND.
Dr Mumba says his duty is to defend the party from enemies within and without, and that he would not be held to ransom by selfish short-sighted politicians who have no interest in the MMD surviving, but are active destroyers.
He has dismissed claims made by some MMD Members of Parliament that the party is in an alliance with United Party for National Development.
Speaking yesterday at the party secretariat after a meeting that discussed the matter, Dr Mumba expressed dismay that the MPs have resorted to telling outright lies and have exhibited duplicity in their behaviour without remorse.
Dr Mumba explained that when the National Executive Committee met on 16th November, 2014, they requested him to pursue the possibility of an alliance with UPND and secondly to speak to former President Rupiah Banda about his role in the campaign.
Dr Mumba says this did not mean the alliance was sealed, but was still under discussion.
He states that it is very dishonest for the MPs to be claiming that they are following his instructions to go ahead with the alliance when the truth is that the talks about it with the UPND were inconclusive.
Dr Mumba notes that the same MPs have opposed and resisted his instructions in the past.

Expel them, if they do not support MMD then tell them to join HH. How can someone serve to masters at a go? no way. Those UPND aspiring MPs for 2016 see the fire now, if MMD MPs are expelled and join UPND they will make u lose chances to stand on UPND ticket. Shine your eyes, politics are very divert and sometimes difficult to understand. Short political sighted will not stand for a test of time, imagine if HH accepted to pact with PF in 2011, he would be president right now already, because he is politically blind and can not see beyond.

This kind of behaviour from MPs is totally unacceptable.These are traitors who can’t see beyond thier noses.They used MMD structures and support to ascend to power and today they want to use the same structures to support another party.That is the highest level of moral decay and betrayal of the people who voted for them.I would rather be with one loyal MP than a bunch of MPs behaving like political prostitutes.This is not a parliamentary by election but a presidential.Some people will be shocked at what the outcome will be.

Long overdue! Especially Mutati. He has always thought himself better placed to be president of MMD than Mumba. He is not even presidential quality. Mutati is better placed as a technocrat. Just as the man he is supporting!
