FORUM for Democracy and Development (FDD) president Edith Nawakwi has pledged to establish a loan scheme for students in tertiary institutions if elected into office in next month’s presidential election.
Ms Nawakwi, a former Minister of Finance in President Frederick Chiluba’s administration, said she believes that the only sustainable way of providing education to students in universities and colleges is by providing them with loans.
This is according to a statement issued yesterday by the FDD media team.
“When you vote for me, I will formulate a loan scheme which will benefit all students as opposed to the current system which is marred with corruption and only benefits a few,” Ms Nawakwi said
She also promised to decentralise government and to make it easier for students to get jobs immediately after completing their studies to enable them repay the loans.
“It is high time we found a lasting solution to the challenges facing students in universities and colleges. And only the FDD will be able to do that. So rally behind us,” she said
Ms Nawakwi said chasing students away because of non-payment of fees cannot be allowed to continue.
The FDD leader said if elected into office, she will ensure that the education sector is developed because it is vital to national

Strange enough Mrs.Edith Nawakwi seems to have adapted the same proposal on educational reforms from Dr. B. Mwansa Kapika(President – Workers and Peasants party. His idea of loan schemes, if implemented, shall give accesss to higher education to thousands of poor Zambians. Mrs.Edith Nawakwi is not a stranger to Zambia’s politics,as she had served in previous corrrupt gouvernments, whereby the elite and their children were given all the opportunities, but at the expense of poor Zambians.I would like to advise Mrs. Edith Nawakwi and others to, if they win, to hold consultations with Dr. B. Mwansa Kapika on this subject.Because he seems to know more on how tsuch a scheme can be carried out.

Thumbs up kakolwe.Good Idea from Nawakwi which will go to waste.Am absolutely sure that Nawakwi will never be president just like I am sure that if EL will reach 20th january,he will be the next president of Zambia, just as I am also absolutely sure that the coming of Christ is eminent and very soon

@ MCCM valid point indeed. The good policies and governance upnd is busy about is of JESUS CHRIST and not hh. This is how pipo are lead into idolatery without knowing. Hh can never do even a third of his promises. Pf has shown as something already and upnd has shown as their tribal power.
