Zambian Woman Drowns In Australia

CathyA Zambian woman who drowned at Trigg Point on Boxing Day has been described as an angel taken from the world too soon.

Cathy Chikwanda, 28, was swimming 250 metres north of the patrolled area at Trigg when she got into difficulty about 2.20pm on Friday.

Her husband Chris and another family member were with her and raised the alarm before surf lifesavers pulled her from the water and tried to resuscitate her.

Ambulance paramedics rushed her to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital but she was pronounced dead.cathy1

Mrs Chikwanda, , moved to Perth about 10 years ago.

In WA, she studied at the International Career Institute and worked as a law clerk and in a cafe.

Her husband yesterday said he was struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.

The couple were married a year ago in Zambia.

Family members have set up a crowd funding page for donations to return Mrs Chikwanda’s body to Zambia for burial.

Her death did not deter swimmers at the same spot on Saturday who ignored “no swimming” signs and the nearby flagged area.

Donations for the body to be flown home can be made at www.gofundme.com/jbms10

I almost freaked out. My young brother is in Perth with his young family too. That’s sad but why push swimming beyond the legal boundary mama naimwe. Sad such a loss. I am pretty sure my young brother was there, there is a small Zambian community who like such come togethers. Time to make a call…

If you have stayed outside Zambia before you wouldn’t even say that. Its a common practice EVERYWHERE Zambians come together to help each other during those sad times. If you can’t help just shut up. Ask any Zambians if u got who stays outside, the fund request is within the Zambian communinity in that foreign country. Mule enda.

African Diaspora entrepreneur offers funeral expense and mortgage protection programs

Every now and then, news of a delayed burial for a deceased African immigrant in diaspora as their family and community scramble to get burial funds has hit many with shock and disbelief. But as the debate rages on various ways to solve the problem, one African entrepreneur has come forward offering affordable, final expense programs.
In addition to the final expense program, a Zambian national based in USA, is also helping clients with a mortgage protection program that ensures one’s family is not kicked out of a home in case of unforeseen eventualities that may cause a lapse in their mortgage payments.

Yeah in this suburb area called Vantaa, Its literally dark 24/7 taking a walk police sometimes asks if all is ok with you as they take it walking in extreme cold weather (today -29degrees) is more of suicidal that leisure by 3pm it totally dark, stay in a pub drink, and drink excitement keeps people warm, mostly indoors till I think Feb when the sun start to be seen.
