UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema has promised to give cheap loans to marketeers to help them grow their businesses and become big entrepreneurs if elected president in the January 20 poll.
Addressing a rally at the Solwezi show grounds yesterday, Mr Hichilema said he will also provide loans to taxi drivers to enable them buy their own cars so that they can become self-reliant.
Mr Hichilema said his job will be to deliver development to all parts of the country if elected president.
“I, Hakainde Hichilema, an running for presidency of Zambia and I would like to assure you that I will not abuse your votes when elected president by neglecting you like the way the PF has done,” he said.
Mr Hichilema said his government will ensure equitable distribution of resources across the country.
He alleged that the Patriotic Front (PF) government is using money being collected from Kansanshi, Kalumbila and Barrick Lumwana mines in the province to build roads and universities elsewhere when North-Western Province is lagging in development.
Mr Hichilema also said he will address issues affecting mining companies and ensure the conditions of service for miners are improved.
He also assured that his government will work on the Solwezi-Chingola road, which has claimed many lives, immediately he is elected into office.
“We are also going to work on the township roads in Solwezi because the state of the roads is not pleasing but there is too much money coming from here which the PF is using to build roads in Muchinga and two universities when here you have none,” Mr Hichilema said.
He also pledged to reduce the prices of fertiliser to help increase agricultural production in order to help reduce the cost of mealie-meal.
And MMD national chairman Kabinga Pande appealed to people in North-Western Province to vote out the PF government because it has allegedly neglected the province.
Mr Pande, who is also Kasempa member of Parliament (MP), said time to change government has come and urged people to vote for the UPND leader so that he could deliver development to the province.
Earlier, UPND vice-president Richard Kapita appealed to party members to stop infighting to avoid splitting the UPND votes on January 20.
He urged party members to work with the new members from the other opposition parties in this election.
Others who spoke at the rally were Zambezi East MP Sarah Sayifwanda , Ikelenge lawmaker Elijah Muchima and other UPND party officials.
The UPND leader, who is on a campaign trail in North-Western Province, earlier held rallies at St Dorothy, Mushindamo and Manyama areas in Solwezi.

Iwe, you have exposed your imbecility enough. You have stashed away your stoopid ‘exit polls’ and you continue oozing your menses through the mouth!!!
Have you ever heard of Ibramovich chasing the presidency coz of his Trillions? What about Bill Gates? In your world Oprah Winfrey qualifies to be president of her nation coz of being rich?
Wecinangwawe!!! Making oneself rich ain’t a qualification for presidency!!! Look past your leader’s money as much as I look beyond Edgar’s dental formula!! Past that I see a President in Edgar and see a pompous bigot in HH.
You are too shallow yo understand this. Go wipe your mouth! Or does it need a diaper?
