Nevers Mumba Urges Lungu To Behave Responsibly
Edgar Lungu has a moral obligation to explain his whereabouts to the electorate, says MMD leader Nevers Mumba.
Mumba said Lungu was being irresponsible by refusing to tell Zambians of his whereabouts. Lungu, the PF candidate in this month’s presidential election, on Wednesday said until the law is changed to require disclosure of political parties’ source of funding, no one had the right to question him where he went. His comments came after his secret trip to Rwanda and Nigeria was exposed. But Mumba asked Lungu to tap into his morality and be responsible to the electorate. “Taking a morality aspect, we as presidential candidates have a responsibility to our electorate on our movements. It is good manners to tell the electorate where you are. It is not required by law but it is only good manners,” he said. Mumba said it was common courtesy and humility to let voters know where a presidential candidate is. He said it was rude for Lungu not to apologise and tell the truth to the people who had been waiting for him for a public meeting in Mpulungu.
“And the Mpulungu rally where people were waiting for him, what I think happened is he ran out of money and he had to think of ways to find money for the next rallies. But the important thing he should have done is he should have apologised to the people waiting and tell them he would not make it. It is only the right and moral thing to do,” Mumba said. He advised voters to scrutinise candidates’ characters by seeing how they address and respect other people.
Mumba added that as defence minister, Lungu had no right to leave the country without a proper explanation when demanded by the people. He also said there was need for legislation that would compel presidential candidates to disclose their source of funding to avoid them mortgaging the country.
“But my point is we need a law because as it stands, it is just the moral obligation of each candidate. We would like to see legislation urging transparency in the funding of elections.
We have to confront the loophole in the Constitution and create a legal framework,” said Mumba.

Dr. Mumba, Lungu apologised and informed the nation that he went to Rwanda and Nigeria. That should be enough for outsiders Like you and other political players.
If you are tracing his funding which is information for PF alone, then you are wrong. Even you and other political parties have not disclosed that aspect to the nation. Sorry to say but its better you concentrate on convincing electorates to vote for you than to join these petty politics. I thought your approach ranked you second but am disappointed you are moving at the same level with regional political party.

If Lungu claims to be Law-abiding, why doesn’t he relinguish his Parliament Membership, since one cannot be a Member of the National Assembly as well as file nominations for Presidency. Is the Constitution not Law (sic)?
