Failed State Remark By Maureen Mwanawasa IRKS Mwanajiti

FORMER first lady Maureen Mwanawasa should be condemned for declaring Zambia as a failed State, human rights and governance advocate Ngande Mwanajiti has said.
Mr Mwanajiti said such accusations and outbursts were unacceptable
He said the comments by Dr Mwanawasa following the violence in Shiwanga’andu on Friday could undermine democracy and efficacy of the institutions affected.
A UPND campaign team comprising Dr Mwanawasa, Lunte parliamentarian Felix Mutati, former Deputy Speaker of National Assembly Mutale Nalumango and Lubansenshi lawmaker Patrick Mucheleka was attacked by machete-wielding suspected PF supporters when the quartet arrived in Shiwanga’ndu to address a rally.
Several people were injured in the fracas which police at first failed to control until reinforcements were called.
A helicopter carrying the UPND officials to the rally was almost rammed by a PF-branded Land Cruiser in the confusion that ensued.
But Mr Mwanajiti said in a press statement issued yesterday that there was need to respond to all these challenges with soberness, responsibility and patriotism beyond a particular interest.
“According to Dr Maureen Mwanawasa, Zambia is a failed State simply because there was a clash between opposing camps and the unfortunate incident that caused fear, anguish and possibly loss of life. Quick action by police saved the day.
“Yes, we have seen the video depicting confusion, but we must go beyond the video to establish what really happened before expressing such strong sentiments about the status of our country beyond our ‘no to violence’ posture,” he said.
“For now we are concerned that there are apparent efforts to ridicule the Zambian Government as a whole,” he said.
And Mr Mwanajiti has also called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to work with other stakeholders to establish the validity and truth of UPND vice-president Canisius Banda’s accusations that ballot papers have been smeared with a special chemical.
Recently, Dr Banda alleged that UPND had information that the ECZ would interfere with the transmission of results to make his party lose the election.
Mr Mwanajiti said if it was established that the allegations were untrue, the law must “be applied fairly but firmly and with the urgency it deserves”.

ANOTHER MUVI OPINIOM POLL PLACES HH FAR MUCH AHEAD OF EDGAR LUNGU.

Opinion poll Another opinion poll released by Muvi Television Sunday evening has shown that Hakainde Hichilema of UPND would win the elections by 82 percent increasing by one percent from last week. Edgar Lungu of the ruling Patriotic Front trails distant at 16 percent. The result are picked in a graph. Hichilema is in blue while Lungu in red.

HH is expected to win in Lusaka, Copperbelt, Southern Province, Western Province and North Western Province. Lungu will win in the remaining provinces puting him at the second position from HH.

God Bless Zambia and God bless our sixth Republican President.

Laughable and shameful poll results!!!! I couldn’t expect anything different from last week. MUVI TV are hell-bent on making sure they deliver what UPND has paid them for. Shame on them. After all, it does not matter at all as all of us have already made up our minds not to be hoodwinked by such cheap way of campaigning. No matter how harder MUVI TV and their sponsors work to discredit PF, they are going nowhere. The reality on the ground is totally different. Its in fact 82% for EL and 16% for HH.

You are right. Even when such violence took place during her (Maureen) late husband’s reign Zambia wasn’t declared a failed state.

        Advice to Maureen,
As long as you are in the field campaigning expect such encounters and much worse as you go along the way.

Pay back time, your step daughter is still crying becoz of your home violence against her.

Come to Kitwe we will destroy that you chopper.

Actually for me, Mr Mwanajiti, two things irked me in that video. What Mwanawasa said and that statement by the other man saying: “Fwebamano tusapota UPND elyo abashakwata amano basapota PF.”
The man is showing that anyone supporting PF is a fool!! By definition of political intolerance, he does not differe from those that gave them Usain Bold dash. They are both intolerant.
Yes the two cases of Shiwang’andu (02-01-15 PF) and that of Mongu (04-01-15 UPND) are isolated insidences of idiocy and cannot cause Zambia to be a failed state.

@kakolwe, you almost ripped my lungs open with laughter!! I saw the Usain Bolt dash, though the strange thing is that the video does not show who the assailants were, I mean who caused the Usain Bolt dash???? Could this have been stage-managed. I think we need to know the truth.

KaJane Mulenga, Every person is entitle to their opinion just as Muvi TV are entitled to theirs. I believe you also have your own opinion and we respect that.
What is somewhat funny is for you to swallow others’ opinions as gospel and wish to feed everybody with your convictions. It can’t work.
By the way, thank you for declaring your love the other day! The feeling is mutual!!
Dream well in your opinionated mind.

Its true,THIS OPINION POLL WAS CONDUCTED AT A UPND RALLY IN SOUTHERN PROVINCE?THIS IMPLIES THAT THERE IS a good percentage 4 EL even at UPND ralies who wil vote 4 EL,Unlike EL’s massive rallies where almost 100% are in favour of Lungu. Its true UPND is winning in southern, north western and maybe even western by 82%,BUT OVERALL RESULTS WILL BE IN FAVOUR OF PF’s EDGAR LUNGU BY 67%.
2016 EL WILL AGAIN WIN BY 70%

according to what I have witnessed, the opinion polls are not a true reflection of whats on the ground. I have taken time to look at the rallies that EL and HH have had, I must say that EL pulls huge crowds.
I was beginning to put my wait on UPND but alas! the number of corrupt scrooge politicians who have joined HH makes me think that UPND is another Shit but on a different pile.it’s like doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results.

If Mwananjiti sees what happens in Zambia as normal, then there is something wrong with him. Can he give me an example of another country where a Minister of Justice who is prosecuting a former President accused of serious corruption charges has received endorsement from the accused and even accepts funding from the same person who has been accused of stealing public funds? Then some Journalists who should know better portray the endorsement as a normal event instead of a criminal event! Add to this the violence, lawlessness, even among political leaders (May be Mwananjiti has forgotten the PF circus). If this is not a failed state what is it Mr. Mwananjiti?

Most of these botches just blurt out things from their mouths without knowing what they mean. A failed state is yet to occur in southern africa because even Madagascar the only country that has had coups in this region is not a failed state. Maureen is just a failed politician. Very foolish politician too

Let me repeat what I said the other day.
If I, a reasoning PF supporter, go to Namwala to campaign for PF and the good people of Namwala politely say to me: “Peepe, swebo tulayanda HH a janza kumbele buyo. Twalumba mdala for trying amhinke cibotu cibotu” Then the following week I go back with a team of PF die hards with loads of cash to try and sway the minds of the people I talked to!!! Ehhh! Baneee! If they roast my balls/malepes, I’ll no one to blame but my opinionated minds.
The UPND/MMD team should have understood that the NO! which the people of Northern Province gave to HH was humble but final.

Ngandwe, it was you and your elder brother who first brought the tribal tag on UPND by declaring who the rightful successor to Mazoka (MHSRIP) should be. Then you on your own accord, perhaps due to the embarrassment your pronouncement brought upon yourself. Now you are calling for the condemnation of a statement by one who survived a traumatizing assault, are you sure you are not losing something very critical here? Violence in whatever form is always ugly. TAKE IT EASY YOUNG MAN and be honest with yourself!

I believe the complainant in this video which does not show the chaser but only the chasee is MMD because the majority were MMD. So if Nevers Mumba doesn’t speak out for his MPs, UPND should keep quiet.

I do not agree that Zambia is already a failed state. What is true is that beating up somebody whilst holding a panga, in full view of the police, is something that is normal in a failed state. It is the duty of every right thinking Zambian to condemn filthy acts, regardless of the perpetrator. We can only be proud of our country if we are proud of our relationships with each other. No matter where we come from, it is us to blame for whatever becomes of our country, or us to praise if we build ourselves a great nation

In a failed state, no one is able to cast a vote, in a failed state no one can have the democratic rights to do anything he/she wants. In a failed state you cannot embark on any development as it were. So Maureen Mwanawasa is a liar and being economical with the truth.
