Police Arrest Man Over Murder Of Sister, Niece, Nephew

POLICE in Lusaka have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly murdering his 20-year-old sister and her two children aged four years and nine months.
Members of the community who were infuriated by the gruesome act descended on the suspect, who they thoroughly beat before he was rescued by police who rushed him to hospital.
Lusaka Province Commissioner of Police Lemmy Kajoba said in an interview yesterday that the suspect allegedly stabbed his younger sister and her children to death using a knife after returning home from a drinking spree and found that no food had been left for him.
Mr Kajoba said the incident happened around 13:00 hours on Monday in Nampundwe Mine area.
“The suspect used to live with his sister and on that day, he returned from a drinking spree and found that there was no food for him and this infuriated him and he got a knife and started stabbing them,” he said.
Mr Kajoba named the suspect as Brighton Chibingila. The woman was Monica Chibingila, her 4-year-old daughter was Grace Bwalya and the 9-month-old son was Danny Bwalya.
Mr Kajoba said the bodies of the trio are in Lusaka’s University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary, awaiting postmortem.
He said incensed people in the neighbourhood descended on the suspect and beat him up.
“He was only rescued by the police who rushed him to the hospital for treatment,” Mr Kajoba said.
He said the suspect who has been charged with three counts of murder was discharged from hospital yesterday and is currently detained in police custody.
