SAD: Elias Chipimo Senior Dies
National Restoration Party Party President (NAREP) Presidential candidate Elias Chipimo’s father has died.
Elias Chipimo Snr died in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Chipimo held numerous positions in the first UNIP government of President Kenneth Kaunda as minister and later on diplomat to the United Kingdom, Japan and Germany.
Chipimo later came to national attention when he vehemently criticized President Kaunda’s One Party rule and human rights abuses.
He later became part of the group that started agitating for plural politics and became the MMD.
His son, Elias Chipimo Jr, will be contesting Tuesday’s Presidential election.
He had announced last week he was putting on hold his campaigns owing to his father’s illness.
