Abz Lauds President Edgar C Lungu For Appointing A Woman As Republican Vice President

Our party showers praises on President Edgar Chagwa Lungu for appointing a woman as Republican Vice President. Mr Lungu has scored a first by appointing the first woman to serve as vice president in the Republic of Zambia.
This decision speaks volumes about the confidence President Lungu has in women especially highly principled women such as Madam Inonge Wina. By this appointment which demonstrates unprecedented show of confidence in the capacity of women to deliver at such high level, women in Zambia can now look forward to the first woman Republican President in our country. As such, we look at this appointment as the best jubilee present not only to women but to all Zambians since we all came from a woman’s womb.
Our party believes that a new era has dawned in our country where more women will take up positions of leadership picking it up from were late President Michael Chilufya Sata left off having appointed many women to senior positions in the public service including the current acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda and the Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani. This development has inspired young women and girls to work hard and overcome stereotypes on which gender discrimination hinges.
We are convinced that the decision to appoint Madam Wina is not meant to reward the Western province and the Lozi people in particular because the people of Western province actually voted against the PF even in the constituency where Madam Wina is a member of parliament namely Nalolo constituency.
Moreover, we don’t think that the appointment is meant to make the people of Western province change their minds and start voting for the Patriotic Front (PF) because they voted for the opposition even in the face of huge infrastructure development especially much needed roads that the PF has initiated in the region.
This scenario eliminates reasons anchored on political expediency and leaves only progressive reasons to explain the rationale of the appointment Madam Wina namely faith in individual performance and integrity. This means that President Lungu is a good leader who will not judge persons based on the conduct of their region or tribe but individual ability. As far as we are concerned this is a mark of progressive leadership on the part of His Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

Finally, we are very happy to note that regions that voted for President Lungu in big numbers such as Luapula, Muchinga and Northern have not cried foul. We say so because ordinarily they should have expected to be rewarded by appointing a vice president from their regions. But again President Lungu has demonstrated that he embraces every tribe and will recognize and reward individual talent and skills and not tribal or region allegiances.
Moreover, President Lungu has shown the way that we should all follow in climbing the socio-economic and political ladder. It is individual brilliance and not ethnicity nor outright tribalism.
Against this background, we wish to advise regions that voted for PF en masse not to allow hot head from their areas to demand a vice president on tribal lines because such would work against them in future.

Individual brilliance indeed. Judged by content of one’s character not sex, creed, race or ethnic inclination or origin as enshrined in ‘some losing opposition’ party. ‘Ifipuna’ should be based on merit and not necessarily appeasement.
