US-Based Midfielder Sakala Beefs Up U-20

UNITED States of America-based midfielder Bernard Sakala has beefed up the under-20 national team ahead of the 2015 Senegal Africa Youth Championship.
The Chicago Magic midfielder, who is among four foreign-based players coach Hector Chilombo has summoned, arrived in the country on Friday and joined his colleagues in camp at the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Technical Centre.
Team manager Daniel Jere said in Lusaka on Saturday that Armenia-based skipper Lubambo Musonda of Ulisses FC is expected to join camp next week, while Mweene Mumbi of South African side Ajax Cape, has already joined camp.
Jere said Israel-based midfielder Saith Sakala is doubtful due to club commitments, but that FAZ is doing everything possible to ensure the player is available for the Senegal outing.
Other players yet to join camp include the Red Arrows quartet of Patrick Ngoma, George Mando, Peter Mulenga and Benedict Chepeshi.
Jere said the four will join camp after returning from Tanzania where they are scheduled to go for pre-season training.
“So far so good, the players in camp are doing well and we expect those that are not in to join camp by the end of next week except for the Red Arrows players who will join the other week when they return from Tanzania,” he said.
Jere said Power Dynamos midfielder Larry Bwalya, who is in Sudan for the Confederation Cup, is expected in camp immediately he returns from Sudan.
The team is expected to leave for Senegal on March 5.
Zambia are in Group B with Ghana, Mali and South Africa while Group A has Congo Brazzaville, Ivory Coast, Nigeria and hosts Senegal.
The semi-finalists will qualify for the World Youth Championship slated for New Zealand from May 30 to June 20.
