DEPUTY Bank of Zambia (BOZ) governor for administration, Dr Tukiya Kankasa has urged graduates of the Zambia Institute of Banking and Financial Services (ZIBFS) to not limit their search for employment to Banks only.
Dr Kankasa also said this is because their qualifications equip them not just for the commercial banks but financial services in general.
She was speaking at the 14th ZIBFS graduation ceremony in Lusaka under the theme “Financial Literacy, the key to economic growth,” where 524 students graduated in various financial disciplines.
“We are here to celebrate the graduation of the certificate and diploma level students, the professional diploma graduands and the first graduands of the advanced professional diploma in banking and financial services and the first graduands of the continuous professional diploma subjects,” she said.
Dr Kankasa commended ZIBFS for the ongoing initiative in developing examination programmes not only for young people but also for those already in the industry adding that career enhancement can only be achieved by continuous professional development.
She said to this effect, ZIBFS launched the professional diploma four years ago where 300 graduates of the programme are all eligible to develop their careers further by commencing studies to the advanced professional diploma.
And Dr Kankasa also reminded employers that staff training is an investment for the future and not an expense.
She said the training in practical skills provides a long term benefit that can only enhance customer service.
Meanwhile president of ZIBFS Cephas Chabu has called on commercial banks and other Financial Institutions to consider employing the graduands.
Mr Chabu said the graduands have the skills that it takes to operate efficiently and effectively in any suitable position that may be given to them in any bank or financial institution.
He reminded all financial institutions that are yet to come on board that it is always cheaper and value adding to recruit and train a qualified officer than to recruit and attempt to train an unqualified employee.
Mr Chabu congratulated the students on their achievement.

Only when we start to train our graduates (at every versity) to be ready to be employers, and not just job seekers can this cry from Dr Tukiya a reality. It would be best if Dr Tukiya encouraged these graduates to use the research skills they learnt & proved in attaining their degrees to research in ways they can get into business & employ others.
Africa & Zambia, in particular, are a source of money by outside graduates who come to do some stoopid research in silly themes & head back home richer!!

If the youths do not know to do this in a country of high unemployment then you are doomed. The PF has failed these young people such that even if they applied in other sectors that require low skills, they still stand almost zero chance of securing employment. We in the UPND are going to introduce the mentorship schemes and apprenticeships where big corporates will recieve incentives for introducing such shcemes to help with the 18-24 year old range. Please let us remove this failed party in 2016.

So much of ‘we in the upnd are going to do this or that’. You claim to he educated, rich, wise, etc. Are your brains going to start working ONLY when you get into power? Bill Gates is rich, he doesn’t need to he President to sponsor the UN peace missions. Morgan Freeman % Doris Lensing including Doreen Mukanzo do support the girl child in Zambia & across Africa. They do not need to be presidents. Nomba iwe you think state house will turn HH into an Angel? Shame! Start now get results tomorrow! Oh! My wasted advice! Insult Away!

Kakolwe, I like that now you seem to be seeing things in a more mature way. This was my aim when I started commenting on this website. You and I both know that in the African setup there is only so much you can do and influence while we are in opposition. This is why we need a new constitution that will shift the concentration of power from the head of state and central government to the local governments. We in the UPND will ensure everyone is involved in decision making including you

When you have illiterates at the top, who have power to block meaningful laws that would better the lives of people then you know that the only way to bring about more change is by overthrowing them. Why should we keep useless people in power just because doris lensing and doreen mukanzo are doing what they should be doing? do you see how foolish that sounds? Then why should we tax payers pay for non performing ministers etc?

Do you even believe yourself? Let me give you a vivid example.
When a girl hunged herself for lack of a bursary for UNZA, HH went as far as condemning govt & promising of soft loans IF he came to power. But a private company, IZWE LOANS, not as rich as HH was announcing yesterday that they have so far given out over 150 educational loans to DESERVING students at UNZA. Do they have to wait until 2031 when hh shall be president of the. Republic?

Why should HH personally use his money to fund projects that the government is supposed to provide? It is funny that with the PF we have seen government officials come out on top of their voices wanting praise for doing what they are supposed to do? Because HH has alot of money in his personal capacity, therefore he should give loans? haha very daft way of thinking. You should understand that UPND and HH are separate legal entities mune. Problem with you is that you use emotions to deal with logical issues

C’mon mune New Educated Choma!! Human beings are not govt projects. Educational sponsorship is not a project. These are investments. HH can invest in people & the results will show mightily! This time he wastes in investing in ridicule will never yield anything apart from strife.
Am surprised to know that you are able to desperate HH from UPND. I hope we shall never ever hear of “only HH!”

Not everything is about money. Sometimes a change in attitude, culture and laws can lead to development and economic gains. This is just simple logic. We in the UPND are bent on hoping to change people’s perceptions. For instance look at the youth. They believe success comes from getting an office job and working for some one. However, we cannot blame them because the govts in the past have made them think that is the only way. By creating incentives such as apprenticeships one does not need to throw money at everyhting. Apprentices can be paid below minimum wage depending on their ages. The main issue is to have these guys gaining skills that will hopefully lead to full employment

lol ooh please do not make me laugh. I do not know how to respond to such drivel. The articles are written in English mainly because whoever manages the website understands that it makes sense to have one language in order to avoid confusion. Remember that Zambia has many different languages. You who claims to knows many languages know very well that if you went to portugal and spoke french you would be seen to be a total retard. So please make life easier for those that do not understand whatever local language you use here. Childish sentiments towards my mother will not develop Zambia. we mbushi we. Grow up

Back to the point you raised: the one about leadership & powers. Know this that “The world over, NO PERSON EVER GOT RICH WORKING FOR GOVT! Politicians will make you feel like they are your messiah. Stupidly, some people buy this! This stupidity is evident in Africa with stooges who think only EL, only HH, only KK will do so & so for them. No! You have to do it yourself.

am glad that your are very fluent in so many languages. Some one give this guy a cookie (clap clap). However, I find it so hard to fathom how some one who can learn so many languages, can find it hard to understand the importance of communicating in one language for the purposes of organisation. I thought the saying was that those who can speak many languages tend to have higher IQs, you must be the exception

haha Tutu you started off very well. Although, as ususual I found it hard to read your highly abbreviated words and shortened sentences. However you lost the plot towards the end where you again stooped so low and started spilling a tirade of words from the behind. No need for the vulgar language mune. It doesnt stress your point any better. it is just a waste of your energy and time which I would like to think and hope you have better things for. Calm down mune.
