A30-YEAR-OLD Petauke man has allegedly axed to death two children aged nine and 12 and left another nine-year-old boy hospitalised after being hit with a hoe.
Eastern Province division criminal investigations officer Patrick Bili said police have arrested and detained Tobias Mumba over the incident.
He said the girl and boy, who were together at the time of the attack, met their fate when Mumba allegedly hacked the girl on the head. She died on the spot.
“The girl sustained multiple injuries on the head, neck and back and died on the spot while the boy suffered head wounds after he was crushed by the same suspect on the head,” he said.
Mr Bili said the suspect was on Friday cutting trees in his village, Makale, then decided to go to a neighbouring village, Mpalewe, where he met the two children on the way.
Mr Bili said the suspect grabbed a hoe from the boy and used it to hit the nine-year-old on the head.
The boy managed to escape and reported the matter to his parents.
The injured boy is nursing his wounds at Petauke District Hospital.
Mr Bili said police are trying to establish the motive of the attacks on the children.
And a 25-year-old UPND Munali youth chairperson has been brutally murdered by unknown people in Mtendere East in Lusaka, NANCY SIAME reports.
Police spokesperson Charity Chanda and family spokesperson Peter Chisulo said police have detained a suspect in connection with the murder of Grayzer Matapa, a resident of Mtendere East.
“The deceased, who was in the company of a friend whilst driving a Toyota Corolla registration number ABK 4043, was stopped by a mob of people who ordered the two to come out of the vehicle and the group descended on the deceased while the friend managed to escape,” she said.
She said Matapa died as he was being taken to the University Teaching Hospital, and that police are investigating the killing.

Because if he did he would realise that in the third last paragraph it is clearly stated that a UPND memeber was brutally murdered. All in all the issue here is simply that the PF which is tasked with ensuring security in local areas has failed once more. By now any sensible government would have figured out the areas that a prone to such political attacks and ensured specialised investigatve police are on the ground to prevent such vile attacks. The president promotes violence what u expect?

This item was on muvi TV news today and the victim started complaining that his business was not safe and that his life was in danger and that despite him having reported the matter to police, the police were never acting on the information and no arrests.
Later he was killed and his brother and cousin persued the matter and one man was areested while others are on the run.
The issue here is that those who killed him are THUGS who must face the wrath of the law. Its not a question of which party they belong.
Just come in open to say they are PF thugs. if they were not PF thugs police would have followed the matter immediately the deceased took the report.
