Govt Bans ‘Mapano Dance’

Mupano DanceThe Tanzanian government has banned a popular dance that sees women shaking their bums and stripping off their clothes.

It’s a “new generation” version of the kigodoro dance that, in its original form, has been performed at weddings for many years, Mail & Gurdian Africa reported.

The dance’s name means “little mattress”.

“This has become a serious danger to our culture as it threatens the original dances which are our identity,” Tanzania’s Director of Culture Development, Prof Herman Mwansoko, was quoted as saying.

What do you think of the dance? Should the government have blacklisted it? Have a look below and tell us what you think!

Only East Africans can move this way, why ban the sexy dance? If they were Americans they would earn millions of dollars moving booty like that.

Look, in as much as I do not agree with such uncivilised traditional dances I accept that it is part of tradition and we should respect our history and traditions. However, there is need for the governments to regulate such events which might be a recipe for sexual assaults and other unwanted sexual deviations.Just from the start of the video you see them arguing. Such events should be licenced and not held in public areas as it is classed as indecent exposure.

and schools have always been taught to teach in english and wen one fails his/her exams ati chikopo..come look at their upbringing.. at home we speak our mother tongue wen we go out we have another language..u can’t perfect both so u find one is confused wen the teacher says frypan..but for a western wen a child wakes she’s met with all words that are theirs..thankfully the government realised the importance of reintroducing local languages..thank u Pf.

I personally suggest that this traditional dancing should not be burned, but legalised only indoors at a fee and not publicly like that, for the sake of young ones who were watching their mothers nudity! Intambi kusogolo!!

Wrong to barn. Instead select audience by limiting ceremonies where this could be performed. I support new educated zambian despite difference in political affiliation.

I like that. Even though we have different politcal beliefs we can still find common ground and agree on certain aspects of our society. This is the maturity I look for in my engagements. I hope there were more people like you here. Good morning and in the famous zambian saying “woza weekend”

    • New Educated Zambia

      February 27, 2015 at 10:57 am

Judge I do not agree with that sentiment. Our minds have been programmed to think that when we as africans do things our way, then they are demonic or inferior acts. However in the western world, this is no different from these ladies dancing in a controlled environment on poles with men showering them with money. Different set up but practically the same.

      • Judge Joe Bidden

        February 27, 2015 at 12:48 pm

Nope! I have enjoyed pole dancing in US but in my 4 years I ve never come across pure pusssy on display the flimsiest is a G-string. These Tanzanian weird dance is more of a cult than culture. I see no amusement.

        • New Educated Zambia

          February 27, 2015 at 3:45 pm

You see judge, just as I said your mind has being programmed to think that the american way is the right way. Am sure if you took these people dancing in these videos to america, they too would find the experience of the g-string pole dances appalling and strange.

We have a very similar dance in Zambia only difference is that men are strictly not welcome!

I know of two tribes in Zambia that teaches girls to “dance” like that in bed, in preparation for marriage. I personally think it encourages young girls to be “naughty”….. more curious about the real sexual intercourse.
