Kambwili: UPND Cadre Was NOT Killed By PF Cadres
CHIEF government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has dismissed allegations from the United Party for National Development (UPND) that Patriotic Front (PF) cadres are behind the killing of Grayzer Matapa.
Mr Kambwili said in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday that it is not true that Government is shielding suspected PF cadres who allegedly murdered Mr Matapa in Lusaka’s Mtendere township because that is a criminal case and criminality is not allowed.
“Government cannot shield murderers because its duty is to protect everyone no matter the political party they support,” he said.
Mr Kambwili, who is also minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, said police should be allowed to be professional and thoroughly investigate the matter until perpetrators are brought to book.
“Government wishes to convey its deepest condolences to the Matapa family for a great loss,” he said.
Mr Kambwili said Government has a duty to protect the people not to kill or threaten anyone as alleged by the UPND.
He was responding to media reports that some PF cadres murdered a UPND supporter over the weekend.
And UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has written to President Lungu over the alleged murder of Mr Matapa and appealed to him to intervene in the matter as police have allegedly failed to arrest the suspects.
Mr Hichilema said at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that despite the many reports that the UPND have made to the police, they have never bothered to protect them.
“Our continued call for calmness has fallen on deaf ears,” Mr Hichilema said.
He said the death of Mr Matapa could have been avoided if police had taken action because the deceased had earlier reported the alleged harassment by suspected PF supporters.
He challenged Mrs Libongani to resign if police cannot protect citizens.
He said he has written to Mrs Libongani for a meeting so that she can explain why the police are allowing violence.
And Mr Hichilema has challenged church mother bodies to speak out against violence and help to guide the nation.

Hence we have so called “independent courts” which are tasked with answering all those uncertainities or possibilities as to the cause of death of that man. The late complicated the matter by reporting that he was harassed by pf cadres. He was supposed to report individuals by their names atleast. If yu just say upnd cadres harassed me where can the police begin his investigation, is he not going to probe the leadership of the same party who will in turn demand to know the specific culprit? Jobreaker it has been known well over for ruling parties to persuade opposition parties to support their motions of law. This is the joy of democracy. Mwana do you remember what the percentages of the vote counts were? hehe. And this was using a register that was favourable to the PF as they had won on it in 2011 mind you! What more now when more people will be able to register? I know alot of people who were eligbe to vote for UPND but were disenfranchised. eastern northern could have as low as 28%..
