Former Mines Minister Maxwell Mwale has been sentenced to twelve months imprisonment with hard labour for abuse of authority of office.MAXWELL-MWALE
Mr Mwale was on Wednesday found guilty of abuse of authority of office by facilitating the issuance of mining licences to a Chinese firm, Zhongui International Mining Industry Group Limited.
Passing sentence in the matter this morning, Magistrate Lameck Mwale noted that the number of cases involving abuse of authority of office is on the increasing and that he would be failing in his duties if he did not impose a custodial sentence on the offender.
Magistrate Mwale said the sentence will run from the day the former Minister was convicted on 25th February 2015.
Mr Mwale was on Wednesday acquitted of the other count of being in possession of 5,000 bicycles worth over K1.5 million suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Magistrate Mwale has since directed that the bicycles be restituted to the convict.

Please go and cage these fools. This is what happens when you have government being formed by parties that have no clue or vision as to what constitutes effective and true leadership. This is what poverty does. It compromises the brain such that one sees poltical office as an opportunity to fatten one self. Look at how RB has lost his integrity just to get close to Lungu. And what is even more surprising is that LUngu is ok with gaining support from a man whose reign was marred by rampant corruption which even the late sata stated explicitely. So if you hang around a corrupt man, what does that make you? It simply means the pF is no better. Please let us vote in a party that has shown maturity in approach and has a clean record of hard work and no corruption. In the UPND we will ensure that the courts are independnet. As we all know this man wouldnt have been found wanting while his party was in power. In the UPND if our leaders steal we will ensure they face independent courts and the consequences!

There we go again with miopic visionaries!
Who is the chairman if the UPND?
RB’s associate. RB’s choice deputy speaker of his assembly! One whose duty at CRC was to see to it that a people driven constitution never went through is today UPND’s National Chair. And this New Edu Zm comes to say ‘we in the upnd when we!’
Chanting from an ivory tower!
Baseless.

@No Education Zero: You insinuate that His Excellency, The President, Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu is corrupt. Mr. Zero, you never fail to amaze me; you are crying foul because RB campaigned for our President and spurned your invite to campaign for hh. This clearly shows that you are crying sour grapes; manje ni sembe, sembe, sembe! The fact is YOU LOST THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS and allow this fact to sink into sink into your thick skull. Secondly, you say that up and down is a clean party with no corruption. Are you being honest Mr. Zero? Have you probed your leader hh how he acquired his massive wealth, which is not commensurate to his earnings as manager at Grant Thornton? Have you probed how his predecessor acquired the cows, minus the payment of even one ngwee, from wagon trains en–route from South Africa? This dubious aquisition of wealth by your leaders, does it not amount to actions tantamount to thieving, thieving, fraud, abuse of office, corruption, obtaining goods by false pretenses? Wow!! Mr. Zero your leaders should be tasting salt like bwana Mwale at Chimbokaila. Thirdly, you say that in up and down, you ensure that the courts are independent! Which courts? Are you in government for you, swine lyobe, to assert independence of the Zambia courts of law. You give me the impression that your grade 12 results must have been grades f, f, f, f, f, and f; we cikopo we! This shows clearly that you are having terrible hallucinations about being in government! Wake up to the real world, PF eileteka we cipuba we! Finally, you say that if your leaders steal, they face the independent courts and the consequencies! This is clear unadulterated rubbish! As mentioned above, your leaders deserve to be at Kabwe Maximum Prison and not Chimbikaila! @jobreaker: Under the PF Government, the judiciary is absolutely independent of the executive. Your comment is therefore misdirected and therefore ignored with the contempt it deserves!

Sorry jobreaker, I did not mean to disparage you! I only, just now, realised that you are, our supporter. Yes indeed, and well said, the PF Government shall keep up the good work and shall excel all the previous Governments! Thank you!
