U20 Go Down In Senegal

The Zambia Under Twenty National Soccer team, last evening lost by a lone goal to Senegal in a game played at the Leopold Sedar Senghor stadium in Dakar. The young Chipolopolo had a quite game in the first twenty five minutes with only Patrick Ngoma and Larry Bwalya attempting to strike at goal from afar.
The Senegalese attempted to catch Zambia by surprise in the first ten minutes with long balls but Alex Mwamba and Kapota Kayawe in central defence were equal to the task while Benedict Chepeshi and Peter Mulenga sealed off Zambia’s area on the sides.
Zambia took command of the game in the last twenty five minutes and were unlucky to go for break without a goal to their credit as Patrick Ngoma’s two chances went begging. The first half ended with Zambia having an upper hand.
On resumption, both teams came back with renewed energy that completely changed the pace of the game.
Lubambo Musonda, Spencer Sautu and Larry Bwalya all tried to go forward but were frustrated by the highly physical Senegalese players.
In the sixtieth minute, coach Hector Chilombo rested, Charles Zulu for Dave Daka and changed his formation from the 4-5-1 he started with to the traditional 4-4-2 which seemed to have brought it more impetus.
With Zambia on the “rampage”, Senegal managed to sneak in a goal from a counter attack in the 70th minutes against the run of play.
