HH Leaves Woodlands police station In Lusaka after Police interview yesterday
Police in Lusaka yesterday recorded a warn and caution statement from United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema.
Mr Hichilema arrived at Lusaka’s Woodlands Police station at 10:23 hours in the company of his lawyers, several UPND members of Parliament (MPs) and party members.
He was immediately ushered to a room where he was questioned for over two hours.
Police spokesperson Charity Chanda said Mr Hakainde was warned and cautioned in relation to three statements he made at a press briefing last week.
Mrs Chanda told journalists at Woodlands Police station yesterday that Mr Hichilema was questioned under the State Security Act Chapter 111 sub-section 43.
“Mr Hichilema has been warned and cautioned for saying that he gets first-hand intelligence news; for saying that President Edgar Lungu has released US$10 million to destabilise the UPND; and that the President has also hired people whom he has sent to investigate the source of funding for the UPND in the January 20 presidential elections,” she said.
Mrs Chanda said Mr Hichilema remained silent throughout the interview and that investigations in the matter will continue.
She said police could not caution Mr Hichilema immediately after he made the statements because police are still carrying out their own investigations.
“Our actions are not based on the directives from the President. In fact we had finished our ground work when that statement was made, so it was just a coincidence,” she said.
Mr Hichilema’s lawyer, Jack Mwiimbu, said: “We have been interviewed, he has denied the charges and further investigations will continue.”
Mr Mwiimbu contends that the offence Mr Hichilema allegedly committed is not treasonable.
“Police must operate and investigate this matter professionally. We hope it will not go as far as it has gone today,” he said.
Meanwhile, business came to a standstill at Woodlands Shopping Mall as the entrance gate was closed due to the presence of UPND cadres.
However, there were no problematic incidents as the scene was heavily guarded by police in riot gear.

Why is he keeping quite?He is very good at opening his mouth without first asking the advisors and lawyers.We do not want u to be put in problems but pliz try to tame yo toungue.U can be talkative and thats not a problem coz that is how u were born but do not talk carelessly,
otherwise u may find yourself behind bars,remember KK was once jailed being a former president,what more u who has never even been a councilor.Take my free advice seriously

Keeping quite never saved anyone. The investigators, just like the courts of law, can always draw their own inferences from available evidence even when you keep quite and fear to incriminate yourself. That is how the law is! HH should be man enough and have the balls to stand by what he said instead of now remaining mute. Waona manje wayambakulila!!!

In my basic Law Studies, we were taught that “Silence constitutes acceptance” So by electing to remain silent during the interrogations, this Tribal Leader had no defence.

Police carried out a 2 hour “investigation” with a quiet man? To me its more of a monologue then, than an investigation. HH has all the constitutional rights to remain silent especially in the face of intimidation from Edgar with his stooges.

HH will always be a free man on the soils that he came from. He is the true son of the soil. A man of integrity who has the heart to see all zambians prosperous. A man of humble beginnings. The PF have run out of ideas on how to stop the UPND force of change. This desperation has got so bad that their leader has taken the law in his own hands. Lungu has an underperforming kwacha and economy. The worst we have ever seen the kwacha perform and all his concerned about is HH. Victimising HH will not put food on the table of many zambians. Lungu can afford the luxury of specially distilled vodka now and he thinks all is good with the rest of the country. Get to work!

Its a case of the blind leading the blind.talking with one’s foot in the mouth eya ba hh he has to learn to consult his laywers not william banda awee he’ll keep messing up.no where on earth can a president ignore such a statement coming from an opposition leader ba NEZ no one is victimising him he asked for it kuliboneshy ta.so if he is as powerfull as he claims let him face the law like a man not playing to the gallery its not helping him..

What is the issue here? Why has el failed to arrest the kwacha ever falling? What is so special about hh that some people stop working and keep on persuing hh?
We need more money in our pockets and a strong kwacha.
HH is made to be a hero. Fighting him dents the image el and pf in govt.
The bastards are happy for seeing hh being persecuted but on the other hands are making him a hero.
Let hh rule and see what life will turn to be in Zambia.
Current conditions favours the opposition to stand up and prepare to form the next govt.
