Woman Jailed For Stealing Electricity

The Ndola Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a 39-year-old woman of Kawama township to 10 months simple imprisonment for illegally connecting electricity to her house.
Magistrate Eston Kafunyi on Tuesday convicted and jailed Gloria Musonda of house number 52171 after she pleaded guilty to fraudulent appropriation of power.
Passing the sentence, Mr Kafunyi said acts of by-passing Zesco pre-paid meters are on the increase in Ndola.
He said it is the duty of the courts to deter would-be offenders by imposing custodial sentences.
Musonda on dates unknown but between December 23 last year and February 26 this year in Ndola, fraudulently and unlawfully diverted electricity power to her house by  by-passing a Zesco prepaid meter.
In mitigation, Musonda pleaded with the court to exercise leniency on her because she is a mother and her children are school going.

    Ba Tumfweko, electricity cannot be stolen like any other good.The act Gloria Musonda committed was to deprive Zesco of income through an illegal act of by-passing the counter.@Advert Mulantamba,your english is so unattractive and I concur with @MCCM that you are indeed icisushi.

    I cry for my country. Seriously when a woman goes through the risk of committing such a crime then you know that the country has gone to the dogs. The PF has failed you and I. The PF is busy trying to arrest HH when there are women out there risking their lives because they can barely make ends meet. Please let us vote for the UPND who will ensure to resolve the expensive energy crisis by improved planning and management; Adequate maintenance of generation, transmission and distribution assets;
    Increased investment in new hydro power stations (small and large) given the great generating potential our country has. This is necessary so as to meet domestic demand and the huge export opportunity. Rural electrification as part of development process. Rural areas should have access to facilities such as electricity, internet and telephones.

      Iwe this is why upto now we are faced with power shortages and yet we export power. Do not involve religion where things are simple logic mwana. If the government does not adequately provide basic necessities for its citizens they will eventually go out and get what they need by any means necessary. Do I agree with what she did? Legally NO! However, it is clear that the PF government is to blame for such dangerous and risky manouvres by a woman. Vote UPND to ensure affordable power for all
