More By-Elections As UPND Expels Its MPs As well

After the ruling Patriotic Front expelled Kasama MP Geofrey Mwamba and Chongwe counter part Syvia Masebo, the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has followed suit and expelled three of its Members of Parliament serving as deputy Ministers in the Patriotic Front government for campaigning against party President Hakainde Hichilema in the 20th January presidential election.

The three Members of Parliament are Greyford Monde for Itezhi-tezhi,Richwell Siamunene for Sinazongwe and Sinjembela’s Poniso Njeulu.

The UPND has since written to the Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini requesting him to declare three seats vacant following the expulsion from the party of the trio effective 21st May,2013.

Thanks for waiting for me. I am greatly humbled. Now coming to the issue at hand. Look guys, the issue is simply how people go about carrying out expulsions. We are not saying that people should not be expelled. However, there is need to be transparent and formal in our approach. Mr chibwe has gone on to cite article 9 of the UPND constitution which these three chaps broke. As a party that respects the fair application of rules, these three had to be expelled. The reasons are given under article 9. COmpare this with the way PF have gone on to expel GBM. GBM has not even been given a formal letter with PF constitutional reasons as to why he is being fired. I doubt GBM used any demeaning and insulting language to your president. that is if this is part of your rules too. Vote UPND

Thanks for the response. But I want to draw your attention to the matter concerning one GBM. If you follow the events that followed from the time MCS died you will agree that GBM shot himself in the foot. His utterances against ECL as reported by the Post cannot be tolerated by anyone. It was like there was no one in the country who was equal. The suspensions are a prerogative of each party- only they know why, when, who.

How many MPs does upnd have in parliament?i guess they are just 22 if iam not mistaken, now suppose they win the 2016 general election, wouldn’t they need to work with opposition MPs?because 22 MPs cannot make a cabinet,

UPND cannot win elections so it is ok for them to fire their MPs, even if they fire all of them it is of no consequence for UPND except for the nation budget.

Grow a brain. The current # of (22) mps you mention has no relevence to 2016. The general elections in 2016 include parliamentary seats. There could be a completely different balance of power with regard to #s MPs for each party come 2016.

It’s high time we phased out recycled politicians and allowed new entrants with vibrant muscle to shape the political dispensation of our nation. Katanki should now belong to the archives and wait for HH in 2016 who will also be retired.

and u see the mentality of the upnd…they claim they want change in Zambia..the ruling party adopts some of upnd members and gives them ministerial position so that they can actually shine and show what upnd can so once in power but upnd being a selfish party decides to drop them off because they would rather show their true colours by making our mothers walk naked in the streets and walk with coffins in town to the graveyard..really is this the kind of party to rule us..
