Wina: President Lungu is Not Hiding Behind Rupiah Banda

Vice -President Inonge Wina told parliament this morning that president Edgar Lungu is not hiding behind fourth republican president Rupiah Banda.

Ms Wina was responding to opposition members of parliament who wanted to find out why Mr Rupiah Banda was accompanying Mr Lungu to Namibia for the inauguration of President-elect Dr Hage Geingob.

Ms Wina said the trio of fourth republican president Rupiah Banda, first republican president Kenneth Kaunda and veteran politician Vernon Mwaanga were invited for the inauguration because of the contribution they rendered to the political emancipation of Southern Africa.

“Zambia paid dearly for the political freedom of Africa and people might wish to know that the new president of Namibia was once a political refuge in Zambia,” she said.

Ms Wina added that some politicians are unsettled by the association of the Patriotic Front (PF) and Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) hence accusing president Lungu of being controlled by Mr Banda.

Mr.Rupiah Banda was officially invited to attend the inauguration ceremony by Namibia’s outgoing President, Hifikepunye Pohamba. In his invitation letter, Mr.Pohamba said that the
inauguration ceremony which will be held on 21 March, 2015, will also mark the 25th anniversary of that country’s independence.

“I have the honour and pleasure to invite Your Excellency to grace the inauguration ceremony and the silver jubilee with your presence,” wrote President Pohamba.
He stressed that President Banda’s presence at Dr Geingob’s inauguration ceremony will symbolise the excellent bilateral relations and strong bonds of solidarity and friendship that exist between Zambia and Namibia.

As Zambia’s Ambassador to the United Nations in the 1970s, President Banda once served as President of the United Nations Council for Namibia, a body that was responsible for superintending the country’s affairs before the attainment of political independence in 1990.

Banda might have been geniunely invited to that event. We are not disputing that. The question that the MPs needed to ask is why Lungu is going. Clearly as the vice president has stated, Banda has a lot of credentials to his name to befittingly represent the country. Even VJ going at it alone I do not mind. When you have an economic crisis in your country, a normal and level headed leader would be occupied and troubled by the problems he is facing right in his house. Now we are going to pay for the president’s detail, the vice president’s details and the list goes on. Can we please be told how much this is costing? Please let us vote for UPND which will streamline expenses and ensure prudent use of resources

Sir, you are blinded by hate and loathing for President Lungu. No matter what President Lungu can do you will do your very best to twist everything. This hate crusade against president Lungu by UPND and the Post is not going to help UPNDs fortunes. I was an avid supporter of UPND but not any more. I am appalled at the insults, hurled at a fellow human being.

My prayer everyday is that he spares us from evil leadership to ascend to the throne of this Christian Nation.

Give president Lungu a break to govern and wait for your turn to come. Remember what the Lord Jesus said: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I pause a simple question to UPND if this is how they will want HH to be treated if he became President?

Drunk blogging is the cause of these insults. The aguements(shouting) are baseless, pathetic and lack facts. People with substance and intellect are now withholding their wisdom from these Zambian sites. The site managers need to do something to make it a healthy, respectable representation of the majority wise-intelligent Zambians.

Exactly my thoughts. I have been preaching about this for weeks now. However, when you have a government that is full of PF cadres that are violent and lack any respect for themselves and their neighbours what do you surely expect to happen? They are leading by example.
