CHOMBA MUSIKA, Choma
A SPEEDING motorist who was evading traffic patrol officers on the Monze-Mazabuka road on Friday ended up hitting into a woman instantly killing her two-year-old child that was on her back.
Southern Province assistant commissioner of police Kashif Mphande named the child as Henry Siloka and the mother as Eunice Banda, who is admitted to Monze Mission Hospital nursing fractured legs.
Mr Mphande said the accident happened around 11:00 hours off the Monze-Mazabuka road.
Police have launched a manhunt for the driver of the vehicle, which was found abandoned near Monze Secondary School with an injured passenger identified as Edward Moyo inside.

What is wrong with our Police Officers? Time and again, they have been advised not to chase fleeing motorists but to just take note of the vehicle details, date and time of the event and follow up with RTSA.
The foolish driver also deserves stiff punishment for murder and attempted murder, but two wrongs never make a right, so Police Officers must also face the consequences of their insolence. Kanshi bupuba bwa shani ubu?

Aimwe ba jo reaker mwajoina icipuba cilya icimona party politics in everything? Pliz wise up! Campaigns ended 2 months ago. We hope to discuss issues in their own light. Be it emotional, social, or any other without the political innuendos. For instance, in your case. A fool was fleeing the police (it does mea the police were chasing). That driver ( & the owners of the vehicle) may not even be UPND nor voters for that matter and you relate to politics of cadrelism.

Policemen have given themselves the right to impound the vehicles even when it’s not necessary. RTSA have records of all these vehicles and theirr owners and all police need to do is just give a traffic ticket to an offender and let him/her continue with his/her journey. They deliberately involve themselves in this illegal act of impounding vehicles to create an atmosphere of desperation which leads to corruption. Kickbacks is the only reason traffic police mount rodblocks in Zambia. Can someone please stop this nonsense!

Now that my hangover is cured I can give my view. It is evident that the police have not been given the capacity and skills to gauge a situation and assess it on the basis of cost and benefits analysis. We can not have a situation where people are chased just because the PF starved police want to make a few quid. Why cant we have a computerized system where the police can automatically link car registration to the owner. That way instead of carrying out chases that we know wont yield anyhting, we can still enforce the rules on such drivers. The PF lacks capacity to use their initiative. Vote UPND

The current system at RATSA is such that when u key in the Reg number for the vehicle, all related details to that car are availed to you. The problem here is the level of education among the police officers. To them, being a traffic police officer amounts to impounding vehicles…..look at most cyclists on our roads at night…..no lights en yet the so called police officers do nothing. Instead of just noting the number for the car en go to Ratsa to trace the culprit, chasing the motorist is their best option…..endangering human life. Out police traffic officers have lots to learn from Ratsa officers who are far more superior interms of how they conduct themselves whilst on duty……keep up ur gud works Ratsa officers en if possiible, teach the fools how to work

It is really sad that a child had to died in such circumstance. Police officers respect your fellow human beings. You are fond of misusing your authority. You are not BOMA as you call yourselves. Now see what you have caused. You caused death of the innocent child and today even the one whose legs were broken has passed away. You have caused two deaths because of your sturboness. In Monze trafic officers even storm gurages and go round the compounds to see the vehicles without road taxies. Shame on you.

@Jobreaker, you will die with your own hate. In fact i wished the infliction was on you. You think people in Southern Province dwell on such simple analysis, it is only you who are still agrieved because you nearly lost. The Sothrners have no time for such simple minds. DID you know that it is only Southern Province where you find very Highly Educated individuals. Even the people Who ran your economy before you raided it , it was the Southerners. Take it or leave it “we have one part of society rotten in the name of your type”all they do is stealing and do all sorts of incoceivable things”. I am aware you hate those intelligenciers in the Southern and their decendants who live among you, but you shall NEVER, I repeat, Shall never march them. They are far much advanced in their thinking than you who always go to bed with hate and wake up in the morning with hate. There are a few of you who have lived with our people and are KANSAKO, You in particular need to improve or death is crawling to you soon. CIKUBABE iwe mwana wa Nfwiti.

For sure, the Minister even mentioned a few weeks ago that Traffic Police were making unnecessary road blocks and there by inconveniencing innocent motorists. For how are these dunda-heads going change and stop getting double salaries? Govt should do more to change things not just talking like the Minister did. E.g. Blocks only once a month, secondly, no Police Officer should touch any money at any road block. Reduce penaulty fees to encourage peole to pay, the current ones are too high and if you have less your cash is take without you getting a receipt. Often receipts are only rarely issued if you pay in full.
