JAWUZ Tells Lungu To Reverse Retirement Age As He Promised

THE Judicial Allied Workers Union of Zambia (JAWUZ) president Peter Mwale has appealed to President Edgar Lungu to reverse the 65 years retirement age to 55 years.
He was speaking during submissions to the Parliamentary Committee on Pension and Retirement Age Reforms.
Mr Mwale said Zambia’s unstable and fragile economy is among compelling factors to consider reducing the retirement age.
He also said the choice to retire on the attainment of minimum years of service should remain an individual’s choice and labour right,” he said.
“The proposed first and second tier by the government will only worsen the suffering of the workers by depleting their very meagre income to multiple schemes and that’s why JAWUZ want the government to explore other best policy options, adding that workers are not agreeable to the policy option propagated,” he said.
He contends that the union proposed that 55 years be maintained as the retirement age or even reduced to 45 years considering Zambia’s low life expectancy, high youth unemployment, poor social service delivery, high occupation hazards and the risks in most work places.

The fools who supported Edgar Lungu are learning hard lessons.

Lungu was just following what HH was following and he had no vision of reducing the retirement age.

Watch the space, Edgar Lungu will not fufil any of the campaign promises he made apart from just intimidating, arresting and killing UPND Members.

Edgar Lungu is an impotent President.

BaJawuz, being a representative of the workers, listen to them. Those folks who are approaching govt for sustaining 65 years are more than us who may have wished to even reduce it to 40. But the majority seems to be winning. So stop whining and make the best of it. If you are a govt worker at first degree, read on! & used the govt to get a PhD in the additional 10 years and invest more & more! Every cloud has a silver lining.

Is there any need to consult on this issue really? At 65, one is left with very little energy to stand on their own. Its better to be freed at 55 so that u consolidate investments so that by the time u r 65, one can afford to sit en run issues almost by remote…….a reduction to 55 is un debatable en EL promised this en we are watching

When we told you that Lungu was clueless you call us all sorts of names. This is what happens when some one rules on the basis of what a dead man visioned. Lungu should realise that situations change, which call for one to re-strategise his policies to meet those changes. SO when you follow a dead man’s vision to the letter this is what happens. Such decisions need to be widely consulted before dreaming up a number like 65 and implementing it. We in the UPND will involve all key stakeholders in deciding on such senstive issues. You cannot play around with people’s pensions and hard work. they need to decide.

This JAWUZ union leader seem to be too dull. How do you propose retiring at 45 years. In what grades will be your children and will you manage to take them to school when terminal benefits take four years to be processed. Fool. 55 optional and 60 mandatory is fine. I would not exceed 55years.

Sata was wise. 65 is the best age to retire you work with good expirience, expirience is more productive than just coming from school into work

Chamba, ka president ka JAWUZ. Ati or even reduce to 45 years. Most people in Zambia complete tertiary education in their mid to late 20s. So you’re saying someone should only work about 15 years and retire at 45. How much would they have saved with NAPSA or whichever useless pension scheme in 15 years? Plus remember pension income is fixed for the rest of your life, no increment. You end up more destitute that when you were all ove looking for job natunsapato tombuwa. Zambia is full of idiots who just open their mouths to yap without proper thinking or knowing what they’re talking about.

Let 55 be optional 60 mandatory. Those who want to retire at 55 years let them retire and be given their full pension benefits. If there are those who want to go beyond 55 years they should not go beyond 60 years. If we think 60 years is just too much for someone to work, let us also be looking at the age of these politician who are our leaders now. Most of them are beyond 55 year and they are still active in politics. If a politician can work at 60 years why not a civil servant, a doctor and main others

You can not just bring age limit to 55 when your previous past 23 years has been producing half baked youths from Universities and colleges who literally know nothing . I have worked with a few young men and women who call themselves graduates, oh boy, oh boy it is a shamu; they literally have no good work culture leave alone what they know about some specialised jobs. Employ them and you will see how the economy of Zambia will collupse. It is still the old ones currently running the economy. These so called youths, they need to take work very seriously, they are just jokers. I have no kind words for them. Even the so called Lecturers in these modern institutions are falling bellow to providing proper tutions to these youths. Have a re-look at the whole issue. NO WONDER LUNGU S DILLY DARLING TO THE WHOLE CALL.
