IVORY Coast’s Former First Lady Simone Gbagbo Jailed

Ivory Coast’s former first lady, Simone Gbagbo, has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for her role in the violence that followed the 2010 elections.
Gbagbo, 65, had been charged with undermining state security.
Her husband, former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo, is awaiting trial at the International Criminal Court.
More than 3,000 people died in the violence that followed the presidential poll after the ex-leader refused to accept defeat to Alassane Ouattara.
She and her husband were arrested in 2011 after troops stormed a bunker where the pair had taken refuge in the main city, Abidjan.

3000 people killed is alot. However, this case of finding the first lady implicated in such a mess is a clear sign of African governments lacking the will to draw lines in authority. We need to define what role first ladies play. The role of first lady has become very politicised such that even in Zambia we saw the first lady rolling on the floor to thank voters on behalf of her husband. Surely there are better things these women can do than complicate themselves in politics they know nothing about. A good lesson, let her face the consequences of wanting authority. Vote UPND for defined leaderhsip based on structured authority with limitations

The first ladys role should not be politiced in any way, in last elections we saw one oppositions leaders wife shouting cluelessly how she would bring Vipatala muma hospitals, one could see she was being forced and had no clue of what she was talking about.

@ ka edu is that Ur point of view or biblical view, yes call me old fashioned all u like but I’d rather stand by the truth than swallow all the sweet words I hear, firstly what’s the roll of a woman according to the bible,a helper, comforter, respector of her husband and also submit to get husband, those are some of the views of a woman,it means her suggestion counts but if her husband does not agree with her she should follow her husbands ways,if he is wrong she should be their to comfort and help him up,that woman who was arrested wanted to be equal to a man hence made suggestions that got more than 3000 people killed,in this generation we fight for equality wen we all know we can’t be equal until men start giving birth

indeed just as you stated, your view is very backward and tantamount to gender inequality. There is no need to distinguish roles based on the sex of someone. Rather it should be based on the posiiton of that person, whether male or female. The position one has carries limitations and duties which should be prescribed to that person. Please vote UPND to ensure gender equality that truly works and is just not a gimmick as we are seeing in the PF govt
