Mmembe: Edgar Lungu Has History Of Collapsing, He Will Collapse Again

Lungu CollapsesWhat happened to Edgar Lungu on Sunday is something no one should take pleasure in.

There are some in our body politic who are taking pleasure in Edgar collapsing at the International Women’s Day parade. To them, this is an opportunity for making political mileage out of Edgar’s misfortune.

It’s good that those in government are trying to release information on Edgar’s health situation. But of course, this is not being done in a manner that one can say is truthful. What is clear is that the information being released is not motivated by a desire to let the Zambian people know the truth about the President. It is much more motivated by propaganda arising from fear of losing public support. We shouldn’t forget that Edgar’s health was an issue in the last presidential election.

Some contradictory and hasty statements are being made by State House on Edgar’s health. Firstly, just after five minutes of Edgar collapsing, the nation was told that “after a snap test in the holding room, traces of malaria were detected”.

Later in the day, State House released a statement: “Doctors at Maina Soko Military Hospital have since conducted comprehensive medical checkups and observed that the President and the results are good. The President is being treated for malaria and fatigue…”

Edgar himself said: “I am feeling much better and I have been told I have high levels of fatigue and should take some rest. There is nothing to worry about.”

In another statement at 01:10 hours yesterday, State House issued a “medical bulletin on President Lungu’s condition”, stating: “…the presumptive diagnosis revealed traces of malaria and low blood sugar level. During his observation and treatment, the low sugar level was corrected and the President was able to address a parade on the podium at Heroes Stadium. The President was later taken to Maina Soko Military Hospital for medical tests and observation. Medical tests carried so far ruled out full malaria infection. The nation may wish to know that President Lungu has a history of the narrowing of the food pipe (medically known as achalasia, which was corrected 30 years ago at the University Teaching Hospital). The tests have revealed that this condition may have recurred and could have led to the low sugar condition the President experienced during the women’s day event.”
In a statement issued later in the day at 11:20 hours, State House stated: “The medical team attending to His Excellency…has explored options of correcting the narrowing of the food pipe that led to the illness of the President on Sunday… Doctors have recommended that President Lungu undergoes a high-tech medical procedure which is currently unavailable in Zambia and therefore, he has been referred for specialised treatment abroad.”

What the nation is not being told is that Edgar has a history of collapsing. Last year on April 23, the day he was appointed defence minister, Edgar was almost in a similar situation at State House. Edgar could not attend the swearing-in ceremony after noticing that his sugar level was low. Edgar, who had earlier walked out of the auditorium twice, told Post reporter Roy Habaalu that his sugar level was low. After noticing that Edgar’s walking out of the auditorium was not coordinated, Wynter Kabimba shouted: “Imwe mugwileni uyo Edgar! Roy, mugwileni Edgar azagwa (Hey, hold him, he will fall down).” Fearing that Edgar was about to fall, Roy held him by his hand and took him outside and sat him down in the lobby. “…yah, my sugar level is very low. I have the sweets, don’t worry, I will be fine,” Edgar told Mwansa Kapeya and Roy as security officers positioned themselves to help. Roy loosened Edgar’s shoelaces to allow blood to flow more easily.

On another occasion later, when Edgar was accompanying president Michael Sata on a local trip, he collapsed at the helicopter pad, in full view of State House security and general workers. He was attended to by the late president’s doctor who removed his shoes and gave him Fanta to drink.

Clearly, this problem is not new and as long as its real causes are not addressed, Edgar will be seen collapsing in public again.

The problem that is causing Edgar to collapse is not malaria. In fact, they themselves have said that the “medical tests carried so far ruled out full malaria infection”. We also don’t think the contraction of the food pipe is what is causing Edgar to collapse.

What is causing Edgar to collapse is the low sugar level coupled with a drinking, an alcohol problem. Everything else, including the collapsing, are mere symptoms of much bigger problems.

Edgar should know, or actually knows very well, that moba na sugar disease, diabetes siviyendelana, sivipindlana.

And there is no need to try and deny the fact that Edgar has a drinking problem. And this is the source of these other challenges he is facing. It needs to be addressed. If Edgar does not address the alcohol problem, it will be very difficult for him to manage his low sugar levels.

And there is no need for those in State House to try and cheat themselves that people don’t know that Edgar has a drinking problem. Edgar did not emerge from Mars to come and rule us. He came from among us to be our President. So many people know him and his drinking problem. Let him deal with this problem. It is not a new problem; it is an old problem. It is now becoming a challenge because Edgar is in the public spotlight. We are told in Proverbs 23:29-35: “Show me someone who drinks too much…and I will show you someone miserable and sorry for himself, always causing trouble and always complaining. His eyes are bloodshot, and he has bruises that could have been avoided. Don’t let wine tempt you, even though it is rich red, and it sparkles in the cup, and it goes down smoothly. The next morning, you will feel as if you had been bitten by a poisonous snake. Weird sights will appear before your eyes, and you will not be able to think and speak clearly. You will feel as if you were out on the ocean, seasick, swinging high up in the rigging of a tossing ship. ‘I must have been hit,’ you will say; ‘I must have been beaten up, but I don’t remember it. Why can’t I wake up? I need another drink.’”

To those who are around Edgar, please, please, help him with his drinking problem; moba nimsampha woipa. You shouldn’t be the ones arranging drinks and drinking sprees for him. Drinking is dangerous, especially for a President. Ask Dr Kenneth Kaunda to explain to you how alcohol destroyed Milton Obote and those who were around him.

I would like to wish our President a quick recovery. I would like to Pray to God to return him back to our country in good health so he can continue with developmental programs. I reject the devils plan to destruct our president’s focus and to draw us backwards. We need our leader here with us more than never. Jehova God hear us.

Please no body, and I repeat no body in hos right sense can wish the president ill or any other person for that matter. The president was sick long before he became government leader. If he is sick, he is sick. it ends there! Why look at other people as if they are the one causing his sickness???

ask these useless PF cadres who are used to blaming everyone for their suffering. Even when they are in poverty and their president is flying around seeking the best medical help, they will still claim it is the UPND that has caused this kiki. Poverty really is a disease. It is a cycle because the same chaps keep voting in the same fools

Prayer for President Edgar Chagwa Lungu:
God please have mercy upon our beloved president who is hospital. He is just a human being whose life is in your hands. The devil is hovering over his life in such a way that he is using us to wish him bad luck. Exert your almighty power and kick out all the devilish thinking.
I leave this prayer in the name of your begotten son, Jesus Christ (JC).
    Amen

Nothing wrong teling the truth of our presidents health, before elections some people who knew our presidents health requestd that all candidates should undergo health/medical checkups that was not in vain.

I know our president some time back when he became chawama mp after upnd’s Morgan. Do not point fingers at each other, Mr. Lungu had this problem and collapsed twice whilst saving as Mp before becoming president.
Note: in regard with health issues, someone with problems such as diabate, heartattack, stroke etc needs good rest (enough sleeping) like it or not. Being a president friends it demands 24hr service mainly and how would you expect a diabate, stroke petient to work 24hrs?

Hiding is useless if you want to solve the problem friends, Zambia is a democracy and people have the rights or a say. Does it mean majority of Zambians are educated for nothing, stubbone or what?
