PF’s Adoption of Simbao, Katambo a U-Turn On Corruption- TIZ

TRANSPARENCY International Zambia executive director Goodwell Lungu has condemned the PF’s adoption of ‘leaders born out of corruption’ for by-elections.

And TIZ, which remained mute over the illegal arrest of the Director of Public Prosecutions, has issued a statement welcoming the appointment of a tribunal to probe Mutembo Nchito.

Lungu said the PF’s decision to adopt candidates like Kapembwa Simbao, whose seats were nullified on account of electoral malpractices, was a U-turn on the corruption fight.

“The nomination by the ruling Patriotic Front of candidates whose parliamentary seats were nullified on account of electoral malpractices sends a wrong signal in the fight against corruption on the part of the PF government. The action demonstrates that the PF have made a complete U-turn as it is public knowledge that when Transparency International Zambia raised debate on the eligibility of candidates whose seats were nullified on account of electoral malpractices, the PF strongly agreed with the TIZ position but now they are doing exactly the opposite,” he stated.

Lungu advised political parties to be more serious with the fight against corruption.
“TIZ has noted with concern that this trend to adopt candidates whose seats have been nullified on account of electoral malpractices has also been clearly demonstrated by opposition political parties such as the UPND and MMD. We call upon all political parties in Zambia to be more serious in the fight against corruption and desist from such tendencies and show a high moral ground when adopting candidates,” he stated.

The PF has adopted Simbao and Michael Katambo, both MMD members, for the Senga Hill and Masaiti parliamentary by-elections, despite their 2011 elections being nullified by the courts on account of electoral malpractice and corruption.

Edgar Lungu must be forced to resign. We have not ran out of people to rule us for us to be governed from people we clearly see as clients of Embasy Park.

Zambians, lets stand up and reclaim our land from the dying man no wonder he is busy persecuting the DPP instead of chasing after the faling Kwacha, Fuel Shortages and High cost of mealie meal.
