Building Of Houses For Ex-Presidents On

Government has secured land for the construction of houses for all the former presidents.
Deputy Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Richwell Siamunene told parliament on Tuesday that land has been identified for the projects in Lilayi, Silverest and State Lodge and works are ongoing.
This was in response to a question from Solwezi West member of Parliament (MP) Humphrey Mwanza (MMD), who wanted to know the progress Government has made in identifying land for the construction of residences for all former presidents.
Mr Siamunene said the house for late President Frederick Chiluba and former President Rupiah Banda will be built in Lilayi while houses for late presidents Mwanawasa and Sata will be constructed in the Silverest and State Lodge areas, respectively.
Mr Siamunene said Government is committed to constructing houses for all the former presidents.
He attributed the delay in the construction project to lack of funds and added that the construction period is 50 months.
Mr Siamunene said the construction of a house for Dr Chiluba started in September last year while the building of Dr Mwanawasa’s house commenced on January 6 this year and will be completed this year.
He also said construction of houses for Mr Banda and Mr Sata will start this year and will be completed next year.

CONSTRUCTING HOUSES FOR FORMER PRESIDENTS IS THE WASTE OF GOVT MONEY AND A MOCKERY TO THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE.THESE PEOPLE WHILE THE SERVED THE COUNTRY THEY WERE BEING PAID THEIR SALARIES AND MORE ALLOWANCES.AND THESE ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO DESERVE THIS BENEFIT AND SOME OF THEM DO NOT DESERVE THESE BENEFIT.AS A COUNTRY WE NEED TO ABOLISH THIS LAW SO THAT WE CAN SERVE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WHICH CAN BE CHANNELED INTO DEVELOPMENTS THAT CAN BENEFIT THE MAJORITY OF ZAMBIAN

He said that the delay was due to lack of funds. Great. The people are dead so why would you still build them houses?

Zambia so desperately needs to help the living, orphans, students and so on and so forth. Please stop this madness.

When many zambians cannot afford even 2 meals a day your priority is on making the lives of already comfortable people even better? PF is the most useless party in government. Most of these former presidents have houses. YOu would be an idiot to be a president of zambia and not have plans for your own retirement. One should want to retire to his own house which has sentimental value to him and his family rather than expect a new house. You are an ex presdent! not the president! Please vote in UPND to remove such irrelevancies. Imagine building a house for HH once his ex president? What would be the point??

People that are specialised in preparing grave and tombstone for the burial of presidents would do well to start preparing for Edgar Lungu.

The Kachasu Man may be buried before the end of this year.

Edgar Lungu is seriously sick. He is a moving grave.

Instead of fighting the falling kwacha and shortages of fuel, the Kachasu Man choses to fight Mutembo Nchito.

Edgar Lungu is the most useless President to have ever rulled Zambia. His death and burial will be a big relief.

Cant they build presidential houses based on point system wholly based on how long he/she has been in office, performance etc Say can you build a mansion for KK same value with Lungu’s who possibly will be a president for only 18 months??? Cant make sense.

This is one law EL will earn a lot of mileage by doing away with it. It is not sustainable for a struggling country like ours whose majority people are struggling to even afford a single meal. While it was morally right build a house for for the old Man KK, it certainly does not add up for FTJ, Levy, RB, Sata including EL.

This achaic law made sense during the reign of KK the first president of Zambia had no proper house apart from the now turned national museum in Cilenje township in Lusaka where he used to live during the struggle for independence. Even for him it was irresponsible on his part not to have built one during his 27 year reign as president of Zambia. The other presidents that followed after him have had mansions in good residential areas like kabulonga. Surely why waste tax payers money on such useless ventures. imagine right now the govt is spending heavily renting for the surviving families of these ex presidents when they have a number of houses doted in various high class residential areas where they could easily stay. This law must be abolished.

  33. chiparamba nkausu Reply

The surviving family members have been paid the benefits for their late husbands and their former houses have just been put on rent, the other fringe benefits of free education for their children in any part of the world, free servants, free vehicles with fuel and security. Oh my my God what else do they want and only in Zambia such things happen. This stupid piece of legislation should be scrapped. Can someone in parliament raise a motion please.

This is one of the closes in our constitution that need to be repealed. These people hot their share of money and the still want houses built for them, it should never be like this. This is exploitation of people by some of these people who plundered the public resources. In fact it is the more reason why we should have those aspiring for presidency to have a certain number of assets of their own, so as not to make the pootifoloi for people to go and make ends meet. I personally do not subscribe to such exploitative tendencies by those who ascend to presidency. I demand that let this close be repealed in the new constitution.

This matter is not PF’s matter. It is for all well meaning Zambians. PF did not make this law what is needed is to find a solution about it. MPs what do you think or what are you going to do about this issue. Indeed building a house for KK, Chiluba, Sata & Mwanawasa does it make sense? Even Lupiya who only served for 3 years. But this does not mean that you should heap the blame on the ruling party NO just let us find away of solving this issue / problem. This is when the opposition should show us their positive contribution to an national issue.
